Søren Aabye Kierkegaard was a 19th-century Danish philosopher, theologian, and social critic. Today, he is widely recognized as the first existentialist philosopher. At a time when grand, abstract academic systems ruled European thought, Kierkegaard chose a completely different path: he focused intensely on the inner life of the individual, anxiety, choice, and what it actually feels like to exist. #philosophy #existentialism #kierkegaard #darkacademia #intellectual by @dieanatomist

Franz Kafka was one of the most influential German-language authors of the 20th century, whose work deeply explored the anxieties, alienation, and absurdity of modern human existence. Born on July 3, 1883, into a middle-class German-speaking Jewish family in Prague (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire), Kafka lived a life filled with internal conflict. He trained in law and earned his living working as an executive for an insurance company, a demanding profession that he often felt restricted his true passion: writing.
His complex relationship with his domineering father deeply influenced his perspective on authority, guilt, and isolation, themes that became the backbone of his literary world. Kafka’s unique style blending realism with fantastic elements gave birth to the term “Kafkaesque,” used to describe bizarre, nightmarish situations where individuals are trapped by faceless, incomprehensible bureaucracies. His most famous works, including The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung), The Trial (Der Process), and The Castle (Das Schloss), vividly capture the terrifying feeling of being completely lost in an indifferent world.
Kafka suffered from chronic illness throughout his life, particularly tuberculosis, which ultimately led to his untimely death on June 3, 1924, at the young age of 40. Before he passed away, he famously requested his close friend Max Brod to burn all his unpublished manuscripts. Fortunately for world literature, Brod defied his wishes and published them instead. Today, Kafka is celebrated as a visionary writer who perfectly captured the existential dread, silent struggles, and lonely freedom of the modern soul. #franzkafka #kafkaesque #darkacademia #aestheticvideos #bookstagram existentialism deepthoughts reelsinstagram lofihiphop classicliterature by @dieanatomist
