Pinch me, I must be dreaming! ✨ Not only did I get to present the „UK Artist of the Year“ award at the AMA UK Awards in London ... but the winner was the incredible Hannah White, who graced our Static Roots stage in 2024!

And that’s not all! Hannah also snagged „UK Album of the Year,“ and her partner, Keiron Marshall, won „UK Instrumentalist of the Year“! Talk about a Static Roots power couple! 💪

This is a serious testament to the amazing artists we have the honor of showcasing. Feeling honored, humbled, and oh-so-inspired. Cheers to the power of music and the magic of Americana Music! 🥂

Heute früh, Badezimmer, @wdr 5. Zähne putzen, halb wach, und plötzlich läuft „Left Hook Like Frazier“ von The Delines.

Static Roots Presents, The Delines, 16.10., Zentrum Altenberg.

Oktober, Zentrum Altenberg, Static Roots Presents.

Ben de la Cour sent us this last week.

„There are a lot of festivals out there. Almost none provide the kind of experience Static Roots does. So much love and attention to detail is painted into every nook and cranny and it shows. I can’t wait to come back.“

Ben played the Friday alongside Ger Moloney on accordion. ‚Amazing Grace (Slight Return)‘, ‚Appalachian Book of the Dead‘, ‚Uncle Boudreaux Went to Texas‘, and a reading of the traditional ‚Lakes of Pontchartrain‘ that Nick West at Bucketfull Of Brains called the highlight of the set.

Musicians play a lot of festivals in a year. Most of them blur. When one of them writes to say they cannot wait to come back, that is worth more than any review.

Thank you, Ben. For the set, for the words, and for meaning them.

Mike Ritchie returned to Static Roots on his 19 July show for Celtic Music Radio in Glasgow. His verdict on the 10th anniversary, in a warm short mention: „Simply outstanding. It was rather, rather special.“

Mike is twice named Best Radio Show by AmericanaUK’s readers, in 2017 and again in 2020. His Sunday show has been one of the sharpest ears in the Americana community from Glasgow for years. Earlier this month he dedicated a segment to previewing Static Roots. This week’s episode carries his verdict on what he actually heard.

„Rather, rather special“ is the phrase we keep coming back to. Both hours of Mike’s show are linked below. The Static Roots mention is short and warm, and the two hours of Mike’s music selection around it are the reason his ear is worth trusting in the first place.

Thank you, Mike. For the airtime, for the ear, and for the two doubled „rathers.“

Jeff Robson’s 29 July podcast episode of Tell The Band To Go Home carries a short review of the Static Roots Festival 2026. His verdict in five words: „It’s a life-affirming festival.“

Jeff has been the festival’s compère for years, so he sees the room from the microphone. When someone who has spent that much time watching audiences respond to Americana in Oberhausen uses the phrase „life-affirming,“ that carries specific weight.

This episode is a companion to Jeff’s 12 July episode, which is a three-hour deep dive into the festival’s ten-year history. Both episodes are worth listening to in sequence, if you want to understand what happens in the room and how it got here.

Thank you, Jeff. For the words. For the years. For the microphone.

Nick West’s review of Static Roots 2026 is on Bucketfull Of Brains, published yesterday. His verdict, in his own headline and returned to at the close: „an actual slice of heaven.“

Nick was on his fourth trip to Oberhausen. He took the night bus from Kings Cross to Heathrow after a Jerry Joseph gig on Wednesday, landed in Düsseldorf at 9am, wandered along the Rhine, and rolled into Oberhausen in time for the Welcome Night. Four days of festival travel, captured with the specific attention of someone who has been coming for years.

One line from his opening stays with us. Nick calls Static Roots an amazing paradox where the event is now bigger than the line-up, and yet the line-ups make the festival. That is the most precise editorial observation any reviewer has made about this festival across the whole 2026 run.

He covers every act with genuine listening. Silver Lining’s covers, Ben de la Cour with Ger Moloney on accordion, Kirsten Adamson’s Rickenbacker, Leeroy Stagger opening like a Dead song, Irish Mythen in the Willie Meighan Slot as „one of those performances Static Rooters will talk about all down the ages.“ Jerry Joseph with the Dimpker Brothers, Joana Serrat with her settled English band, The Dreaming Spires as four-piece, Emily Nenni taking the room with her, and the Vandoliers as party band with a message closing everything out.

Nick’s review closes with the courtyard scene: big-screened football, Lincoln Skins soundtrack, no-one wanted to leave, everyone was sure they’d return. Then a small direct line to us: „Over to you Dietmar.“

Yes, Nick. Over to us. See you next year.

Thank you for the trip, the ear, the paradox observation, and the four years of coming back.

Declan Culliton wrote a warm, detailed festival review for Lonesome Highway last week, covering all three days from Welcome Night through the Vandoliers-closing Saturday and the Lincoln Skins-led outdoor wind-down.

Lonesome Highway has been one of the most respected voices in European Americana coverage for over two decades. Declan has been a supporter of Static Roots for years, has hosted us on the radio, and traveled to Oberhausen this year to cover the whole weekend in person.

He describes the festival as one of the premier boutique roots festivals in Europe, names the international flavour of the audience, and covers every act across the three days with the attention of someone who was genuinely listening. He also writes about „the inclusive community spirit“ that brings people back year after year, which is one of the warmest things any reviewer has ever said about what happens in the room.

His closing line is the one we keep returning to.

„Tell a few friends too, but not too many. We don’t want this precious festival to get too big.“

That is exactly right. We hope enough people come to keep the festival possible. We also hope it stays small enough to feel like the room it has always been.

Thank you, Declan. For the years of support. For the trip to Oberhausen. For the review that captures both the music and the family.

The post-festival quiet is a real thing. Static Roots was an absolute dream this year, but now the dust has settled and it’s time to shift gears - literally.

Trading the stage lights for sunlight, and live bands for the sound of the wind in the trees. The festival might be over, but the summer starts right now.
