Everyday students wake up and pick an outfit for the day. Some choose to dress up for class, and others prefer to stay comfy. Some even try to mix the two. Every outfit shows a glimpse of people’s identities. What do you prefer when dressing for class? Comfort or style? 👕👗

The furry community has existed for decades and continues to grow. What most people don’t know is that the fandom is a home for growth, creativity and connections. CSULB’s Furries at the Beach was created to break down the stigma surrounding the subculture. The club offers students the opportunity to meet other furries, make art, play video games and socialize. 🐾

In Filipino culture, those living abroad send care packages known as Balikbayan boxes to loved ones back in the Philippines. These packages aren’t simple. They carry love and a history behind migration and labor. To some Filipinos, these boxes represent love and care from someone who was lucky to leave the Philippines. However, their “luck” comes with expectations. 🇵🇭 📦

You may have noticed the brown park signs with a retro font and palm tree scattered around Long Beach. Homespun Long Beach specializes in handcrafting mini signs resembling these iconic signs. Created by Elizabeth Jackson, she uses her business to give back to her community. Jackson emphasizes a “matriarchal” approach to caring for her community, proving that small businesses can make an impact, especially when led by a woman. 🪧🖌️

Long Beach is home to several diverse open mics and stand up comedy events. Girlypop Mic (@girlypopmic) is redefining comedy, creating a safe space centered around female and LGBTQ+ stand up comedians. Founded by comedian Jenny Burnett, she takes pride in her creation, highlighting how the comedy scene closely connects with a hostile, male-dominated environment. 🎤
