What do you photograph the day your city falls?
Seven photographers in Goma know. They live there. They photographed the tank on the road, and they photographed the masquerade, the runway, the band that kept playing.
More than a million people fled. These seven kept photographing their city.

Africa’s most urgent war is mostly photographed by people flying in. Congo, Close to Home is what it looks like from the inside.

Seven Congolese photographers — @aubinmukoni, Arlette Bashizi, @gloire_chasinga_dav, @guerchomndebo, @jospin_mwisha, Marie-Jeanne Munyerenkana and Moses Sawasawa — turn their lenses on their own country. Not the war alone, but the life it never managed to stop: the market that reopens, the fuel that keeps moving, the ordinary morning that goes on anyway.
African stories, told by Africans. That is the whole point.

🗓 Opening night — Friday 24 July, 6–8pm
📍 Dikan Gallery, Accra · Free admission

For many visual storytellers across Ghana and Africa, the hardest part is not making the work; it is finding the curatorial guidance, production support, and exhibition platform needed to bring that work into public view.

This open call is Dikan Gallery’s response to that gap. There is no need for gatekeeping.

We know artists need more than encouragement, another empty award, or one more workshop. They need curatorial guidance, production support, installation support, visibility, opportunities for print sales, and a community that will support them. For selected artists, Dikan Gallery will provide curatorial guidance, printing, exhibition installation support, and other forms of support.

Through this call, we are creating a pathway for photographers, filmmakers, and lens-based artists to bring their work into public engagement through exhibitions and screenings. We are looking for bodies of work that tell African stories.

25 February is not just a date. It is the day Ghana lost one of its greatest visual storytellers — Emmanuel Bobbie.

Bob Pixel did more than take photographs; he built evidence of a nation. He documented presidents and porters, ceremonies and street corners, power and humility — with the same discipline and respect. We miss his festival posts and the Ghana many of us never knew existed. His camera did not chase fame. He inspired a generation and helped reshape how Ghana saw itself — and how the world saw Ghana.

Five years later, his impact lives on. Legends are not remembered because they were loud. They are remembered because their work refuses to die.

Bob Pixel gave Ghana a gift — a body of work that reminds us of who we are.
He photographed this country out of genuine love, and he showed us the beauty in our everyday movements and the places where we gather.

On 13th December 2025, with the Bob Pixel Foundation, we open GHANA: The Journey Within at Dikan Gallery in honour of Bob’s life and work. taken in South La Estate, Accra by @dikangallery

@bobpixel worked with heart. He travelled, and documented Ghana with a devotion that never faded. He is one of the few Ghanaian photographers who documented the country extensively — humble, focused, and always ready to make room for another story. Inspired many! Mentored all!

Join us on 13 December- 3pm at Dikan Gallery for “Ghana, The Journey Within: Works of Emmanuel Bobbie.”

For the first time, his prints will be available for purchase!
