POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
2026 marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for Dikeou Collection in a new location where we will reintroduce the work from our permanent collection comprised of over 45 international contemporary artists, as well as many new names and acquisitions. In preparation for this move, Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, will close to the public on January 30, 2026 until further notice. Appointments to visit the collection through Jan. 30 can be scheduled on our website.

While these new developments are underway, you can see a selection of Dikeou Collection artwork at Hudson’s Bay, 1600 Stout St, a downtown office building where productivity and creativity meet in the heart of 16th Street. Works by Margaret Lee, Chris Gilmour, Devon Dikeou, Rainer Ganahl, and Sebastiaan Bremer are on view in the public lobby area, providing opportunity for unique encounters with art that break from the norm. Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax, 312 E Colfax Ave, is also open by appointment. Contact info@dikeoucollection.org for scheduling options.

And with these transitions we are pleased to share that the hugely successful Colorado Building Artist Studios program will continue at its new location at the Independence Building on 14th and Tremont. We look forward to expanding our creative community with artist studios, communal spaces, an artist-run gallery, and seeing Denver artists flourish in this building. For more information about the Independence Building, visit dikeouartstudios.com.

The remarkable history of Dikeou Collection—its past, present, and future—is all thanks to our amazing audiences, friends, and collaborators who have shown up and supported us in innumerable ways over the past two decades. We hope to spread the love . . . and the art . . . for many more to come. by @dikeoucollection

The American Penny, One Cent (1793-2025)

"It’s almost never there now . . . much of coin, cash, scratch, moola, flow. It seems antiquated, gone. But there used to be whole dishes/containers designed for men with valets to empty their pockets into, leaving the days’ change liberated, until dress began again the next day. I loved these recepticles, and my father’s was open season, for the taking . . . It was called “the tray”, and he had lots of it—petty cash—and it never seemed empty . . . It was my segue to candy heaven. Hope it’s not empty, or in between changes.”

SORRY NO GAS
2017 Ongoing

"1973 and gas lines are a new thing. We have a blue Oldsmobile Station Wagon with a white vinyl roof—unfortunately for us it’s a Super Size Gas Guzzler. And you only get 5-10 gallons which, for that vehicle, gets maybe three trips to school and back, plus one grocery stop. Weird in that blue Oldsmobile we decide to take a family road trip through Yellowstone and end up in Spokane for the World’s Fair. Present day Prague. On a residency curated by Cortney Lane Stell. And there’s an extra room. Doing a piece called TRICIA NIXON: SUMMER OF 1973 which addresses the former President’s daughter’s uncanny penchant for both heat and coolness . . . The installation will take up two rooms, with the snake like “RING MY BELL” meandering through the suite of
other rooms. Prague for two months checking out all the museums, the castle, the clocks, the bridge, the cemetery, the beer . . . What is everywhere and quite beautiful, is
an Italian technique, a decorative practice that adorns the façades with historic or mythological scenes and graphic motifs . . . It’s called Sgraffito and is like plaster batik
with gray and white . . . Funny it seems to be everywhere in Prague, more than I remember in Italy . . . It’s quite beautiful and very formal. Certainly not contemporary
and beyond wall mural and decoration. Separately, at breakfast, there is this old poodle . . . Blind he wanders around crashing into potted flowers in an exquisite sgraffitied courtyard. It is there, in the courtyard, that I recognize a second poodle, not a real one, but the portrait of the real one, rendered lovingly, in perpetuity, in the sgraffito . . . Live and unreal, these poodles spark the thought that the sgraffito, the technique, can be
used to depict modern scenarios, not just historical motifs. What to do with this extra room . . . Something modern about the 70s gas crisis. It must be sgraffito." by @dikeoucollection

Opening on June 3!

Blending mythology, memory, and symbolic narrative, Devon Dikeou’s @devondikeou @dikeoucollection ‘From Fulfilment to Adaption’ explores the transformative power of care over conquest. Through the imagined meeting of Heracles, the mythic lion-slayer, and Elsa, the lioness raised by Joy Adamson in Born Free, Dikeou reframes heroism as an act of coexistence rather than domination.

Curated by Guglielmo Corbo @guglielmo_corbo and presented at Seconde Vue @secondevue_rome_ (Via di Monserrato 100, Rome) from June 3 to 6.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Walter Robinson. As an artist, writer, critic, and constant presence in the art world, his presence will be sorely missed by many. We are so grateful for his years of support of the collection since its very inception, and incredibly honored to represent a robust yet aptly serene and calming selection of his work among our family of “DQ Artists.” Our thoughts and our hearts are with his family, loved ones, and the many artists and friends whose lives he touched.
