// Premiere // "This conversation about abuse, and the horror of masculinity, is clear for programmers - and also for the audience. The message isn't swamped in the horror genre but supported by it."

@dimabarch shares the festival reaction to his powerful queer Russian horror short 'Dead End'. We also talk about working with acclaimed Russian actor @yantsapnik, immersing the viewer into the protagonist's headspace and being inspired by 'It Follows'.

@brendan55_k just gave me two new favorite pictures of myself.

@beyondfest is one of those rare places where, at least for a brief moment, I can feel safe. And fuck, that feeling is so hard to find these days.

Happy Beyond Fest. Happy M. Night screenings. Happy movies.

@jackludwick_ and I got to explore my body and sexuality — and somehow, something I spent so much of my life hating is finally becoming something I’m ready to embrace.

My body. Myself. All of it.

Turns out, acceptance can be pretty hot.

🌟 Meet Dima Barch! 🌟

On July 30th, we’re hosting our panel “Reclaiming the Other: Queerness in Horror and Sci-Fi.” From 11AM–1PM, join us for a vital (and dare we say horrific and surreal) conversation where you’ll get to meet our amazing panelist, Dima Barch! 🥳

🧠 Dima is a one of the most promising filmmakers emerging from Russia, known for his bold visual style and unapologetically queer voice. His breakout short film, DEAD END, introduced audiences to his fusion of horror, surrealism, and social commentary. His lasted short film, THE POWER TO THE STRIKE, set entirely in a bowling alley, channels the anarchic energy of George A. Romero, John Waters, and Gregg Araki. Praised by Dread Central for his hyper-stylized storytelling, Barch crafts worlds that are as subversive as they are visually striking. Now living in exile after publicly opposing Russia’s anti-LGBTQ+ policies, he continues to explore identity, rebellion, and liberation through genre cinema. Follow Dima and his work on socials — @dimabarch

🎬 Whether you’re into monsters and aliens to dystopian worlds and supernatural horror with queerness at the forefront, this is a conversation you definitely won’t want to miss.

🏳️‍🌈 We’re thrilled to have Dima with us, representing the incredible work being done at the intersection of queer social commentary and the horror genre in our community.

💜 As always, a huge thank you to @firstent for making our entire Summer Panel Series possible. Their continued support of queer filmmakers and our community has helped bring these conversations to life.

Technically, three years.
City of Fallen Angels—thank you for letting me in. Thank you for embracing me with all my darkness, for the people you brought into my life, and for reminding me why this passion is still worth fighting for.
You broke me, rebuilt me, and gave me a version of myself I couldn’t have found anywhere else, you gave me the best people I can wish for.
Here’s to making it bigger, bolder, weirder, sexier, louder—to making it absolutely cunty, cool, unforgettable.

I love you, Los Angeles. Pls let’s be even more. Together. taken in Los Angeles, California by @dimabarch
