To the ones who watched it twice. Three times. Who put it on with their mother and their daughter in the same room.

Sweet Magnolias is complete, and before anything else I want to talk to you. You stopped me in airports and grocery stores and parks to tell me what this town meant to you. You came onto these posts season after season and told me what you saw in Erik. Some of you found us this year and went straight back to the beginning. I have never gotten used to any of it, and I hope I never do.

That was the whole job. Bringing some joy and some tears into your homes. To have served you in that way has been a privilege I do not take lightly.

Thank you to Netflix, to our producers and showrunner, to a cast I would follow anywhere, and to a crew who were the living embodiment of Serenity long before the cameras rolled. And to my wife Lisa Berry, who raised our son four months a year while carrying her own career so that I could go be someone else in a fictional town in South Carolina. Nothing I did on that show happens without her.

Sad to see this world end. Grateful beyond measure to have lived in it. Serenity is still there whenever you need it. #SweetMagnolias #Netflix #ChefErik #Grateful #Blessed by @dion_johnstone

Yep, I do indeed watch the @netflixca drama @sweetmagnoliasnetflix and when I discovered that actor @dion_johnstone who plays Chef Erik Whitley was born in Montreal I pursued an interview. You can watch an extended version at thesuburban.com (On Air, Cohen in the City) but here is a sneak peek. #sweetmagnolias #netflixshows #canadianactors #heatherheadley #netflixdramas by @dion_johnstone

Here’s something I didn’t expect to learn from a sci-fi show.

A lot of my early Stargate work was under prosthetics and makeup. Playing aliens, playing creatures, sometimes with almost none of my face visible. What you find out fast is that when the face is gone you have to act with everything else. Spine, weight, breath, rhythm. It’s actually the oldest form of acting there is, it goes back to the Greeks, and those lessons carried me right into playing Caliban years later at Stratford.

Part two with David Read at Dial the Gate is up now. We got into Lieutenant Tyler, Wodan, Warrick, and a bit about Sweet Magnolias and Kungfuland too. Link here and in my bio ( https://youtu.be/IAYLjvSvD1E?si=jpN9N30pD4PoUvQ5 ) Part one is there too if you missed it. #Stargate #stargatesg1 #scifi #acting #foundation by @dion_johnstone

There’s a whole part of my career that you may not know about.

Early on I did Stargate SG-1, and honestly that’s where I learned most of what I still use. How to build a character. How to carry a story across episodes. How to actually function on a show, which few people teach you. They took me under their wing at a point when I didn’t know much, and a lot of what I do now came out of those years.

I sat down with David Read at dialthegateshow to talk about it. Full conversation on their YouTube, link in my bio. Part two comes out August 29th.

To the love of my life, happy anniversary. ❤️

And as part of our celebration, we’re getting new artwork for our bedroom and wanted to fill the walls with a memory that make us smile every time we look at it.

And because we’ve learned that life is better when you find the easier way, there will be no nails, no drilling, no cement dust. Just peel, stick, and surround ourselves with the moments we love most.

So, of course, I’m going back to @mixtiles which I’ve used before and love. (This is not an ad, but I’m open to collaborating because I really do love what you guys do. 😉)

These are the three finalists from my Stories poll, and we need to narrow it down to two.

Which one gets eliminated: 1, 2, or 3?

To my husband @dion_johnstone I’m so grateful for all the ways we’ve grown, changed, stretched, and kept choosing each other through all the different versions of ourselves. And to have a front-row seat to the man you’ve become.

Here’s to all the memories still to come. ❤️ by @dion_johnstone

Singapore!
Our days here are winding down, and the cast of @kungfulandmovie just wanted to say thank you in advance for accommodating us in such a beautiful city.
(Even though we were in the studio most of the time 😅)
