Insight of the month: no matter how I feel about my stomach and how it looks, it's the same stomach - good enough, fit for purpose and deserving of my appreciation and respect.

In both pics, I'm braced and ready to lift. I'm in 2 different positions. That's all - that's the only difference.

No more disrespecting my belly.

This is something I've thought about a fair bit: what if my inside was on the outside and everyone could see the scars, the scabs and the half-healed, infected wounds and gashes. What would my life be like?

In my fantasy it'd be obvious to people how bad it had been back then. The pressure I feel to explain and justify myself would be lifted. People would understand the damage that's been inflicted on my life and why I am the way I am. Relief!

In reality, though, the majority of people would probably recoil in horror at the ugliness of it - of me. They would make judgements about all aspects of me and my life. I'd be stigmatised, possibly ostracised.

If my scars and wounds were visible I suppose I would have dealt with it. But I think I'm glad they're not. It reminds me, though, that what we see may only be a tiny part of someone's story. We'd be better off as a species if we treated each other with more kindness and compassion and less judgement and hostility.

If someone ever says "How can therapy be hard? It's only talking?" to me again I will hit them. Hard.

I'm not long back from this week's session, and I'm fucked. Physically and mentally exhausted. I can't eat. I can't sleep. I can't cry. I've been sat on my bed just staring at nothing. All I want is to totally disengage from the world and cancel everything for at least a week.

Therapy is so much more than talking. Exactly what it is will vary from person to person, but whatever it is, it's bloody hard work.

Why do I do it if it's such hard work? Fuck knows. That's how I feel right now. But on some level I can feel it working - that I'm beginning to shed some the "shit" that was handed down to me and changing the narrative. Short-term pain, long-term gain, I suppose.

I love autumn.
I love dappled sunshine.
I love Vicky Park.
And I love that despite today starting with a panic attack, tears, paranoia and other mental health "shit" I am able to appreciate these things.
Yes, I'm pretty much shut off right now but, at the edges of my awareness, is that hint of appreciation of the colours, the sunshine, the blue sky, animals doing their little thing... And I know that later, I'll be grateful I came out here. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthrecovery #recoveryishard #recoveryisworthit #traumarecovery #traumahealing #wellbeing #strongerbodystrongermind by @dippy_marie

I'm scared, both for Ukraine and the rest of us. Where will it end? #ukraine by @dippy_marie

2021... WHAT A YEAR.

If I had to sum it up in one word it would be therapy. I went back into therapy a year ago and... Wow. Finally addressing childhood traumas at age 49 is bloody hard. But it's been worth every tear and every moment of gut-wrenching pain.

I'm changing, inside. I'm aware of a softening, an internal reorganisation, an emerging willingness and ability to trust and relinquishing control. It feels flipping amazing.

I'm taking that with me into 2022 and look forward to the adventures the year will bring.

Happy end of 2021 ❤️

Lots of love to all my fellow disco balls out there ❤️ And when you feel like you've lost your light and sparkle - you haven't. You still shine and glitter #discoballs #brokenandbeautiful #beautifullybroken #keeponshining by @dippy_marie

My dream? Not having to be strong and resilient anymore. I'm bone-tired of always having to cope - of never having a day off. And today I'm feeling it more than most days. #strongbuttired #healing #healingtrauma #healingisfuckinghard #motherwound #daughtersofnarcissisticmothers #mentalexhaustion #mentalhealth #journey by @dippy_marie

Not a bad spot for some Friday afternoon reflections, fuelled by coffee & cookie. Very fortunate to have this little gem of a place practically on my doorstep @cassiacommunity #reflections #grateful #coffee #cookie #probablythebestcookieever #whostolethesun #pleasegiveitback by @dippy_marie
