Yup! This is me!

I started my company thanks to my good friend and client @jigikp. She asked me to book her family’s first safari trip to Tanzania. When I told her I didn’t know anything about the industry she said, “ Go figure it out, I believe in you.”

And the rest is history.

Here I am 2 1/2 years into this journey, still loving everything about it, grateful for all the people I’ve met, excited about all the people I’m going to meet, and thankful I have a friend who pushed me out of my comfort zone to become Dipti Discovers.

February 2017– My ABSOLUTELY FAVORITE photo of the 5 of us.

I love everything about this picture. I love that I felt safe & confident to have my son chauffeur me around the streets of Thailand. & I love that the girls got to feel safe and confident with their Dad.

We had already spent 13 weeks in Europe, 6 weeks in India, 3 weeks in Egypt, 2 weeks in Malaysia and were now staying for 3 weeks in Thailand 🇹🇭

It was safe to say we were expert travelers at this point.

@sunpatel and the girls would lead, jamming out to the latest songs, while I had deep conversations with my son- always ending with him promising me to live his life authentically and to come back with his own family one day.

I wanted him to have AND know all joy I was feeling and then to pass it onto the girls bc they did everything he did. 🪷💕🙏🏽

If someone were to ask me what was this girl feeling in this picture, I’d say …..

My 6th grade middle schooler, my 11th grade high schooler & my 3rd grade elementary schooler riding around on a scooter.

While this may be a common practice in many parts of the world, it’s the last thing an American mother would think is safe.

By the time we got to Thailand, I had zero doubts about their ability to make sound decisions regarding safety or to safely navigate in this country.

Yes, we didn’t wear helmets.
Yes, it was a risk.
No, it wasn’t mandatory 10 years ago.
Yes, I’m grateful nothing happened.

This was Home Sweet Home in Krabi, Thailand.

We got a 2 bedroom little villa with a small living room and kitchen. Everyday was the same routine.

Scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast.
School work in the morning after a swim.
Lunch from the local 7-11 for the kids. They loved going on the scooter and picking up snacks.
Drive to the beach or some sightseeing activity.
Dinner at a restaurant, usually green curry & rice and noodles.

No soda, no coffee, no desserts bc these were treats.

It was a simple and PERFECT routine.

I can’t go back to this time but if I had the chance to do it again, I’d do it in a heartbeat 💓 taken in Krabi Thailand by @dipti_discovers

10 years ago my family and I packed up our lives and traveled. We did 13 countries, each with only a carry on and a backpack for the year.

The kids were in high school, middle school and elementary school. People told me I was negligent and selfish, but I knew this was the right decision for us.

2016-2017 changed everything about our family; the way we interacted, communicated, listened to each other and heard each others words. How we reacted to situations and how resourceful we were in seeking answers. We were active participants in our lives, accountable for decisions and the fruits of that trust. I wanted to show my children how to live a life of your own even if it looked drastically different from everyone else’s.

Today, I’m proud to say, I’m mom to 3 fabulous and HAPPY young people. Each is thriving in their worlds.

I read an interesting quote the other day. It asked,

“How can I begin anything new with all of yesterday in me?”- Leonard Cohen

My yesterdays are whole. They are complete and resolved AND they are happy. I don’t need to look back at yesterday except to find the gratitude and beauty in all the lessons and experiences I had in the last 52 years.

I have lived a beautiful life.

I’m moving forward in the next chapter as official “EMPTY NESTERS” with my sweetheart, and for the first time in my life, I’m discovering who is Dipti and what does she dream of now!

How did my love affair with safari first begin? Well, that’s a story in itself!

In 2019, I took my husband to India for our 20th anniversary. I had traveled the world, but safari? I had no idea where to begin. I just knew that I wanted to experience it with SUJÁN.

And somehow, when you’re on the right path, the right people appear. For me, that was @devika.manocha, then managing the SUJÁN properties, who helped guide the entire journey. She helped plan and arrange our stays at all four of their properties at the time, making the entire experience feel human.

Because my husband was obsessed with seeing a tiger, the @thesujanlife Sher Bagh property was a natural choice. Sadly, we didn’t get to see one, and by the end of our second night, I was honestly VERY put off by the “safari experience” at that point.

But then we arrived at Jawai—and everything changed. The landscape, the leopards, the guides, the food, the extraordinary warmth and service…I was completely blown away.

It wasn’t India that made me fall in love with safari. It was SUJÁN that lit the fire. And the rest, truly, is history.

Thank you, Devika, for your generosity and patience. You will never know what a gift you gave us. That experience LITERALLY changed the trajectory of my life.

I’m looking forward to meeting again in person and catching up over a delicious “creamy, dreamy” Indian chai IN India! 🇮🇳❤️🐆

2) No more than one hour permitted with the family
3) MUST wear mask at ALL times to protect the gorillas from human diseases

Modern. Yet Indian.

Both born and raised in the USA.
Both first generation born to Gujarati Immigrants.
Both Boston University graduates.
Both college sweethearts.

Together 32 years.
Married for 27.
Built 2 companies.
Raised 3 kids.
Both sets of parents, healthy.
One BIG happy family.

We followed the rules and we broke them.

What happens now?

Now we discover what it really means to grow “old” together—

to be empty nesters at 50, to navigate changing bodies, to shed the labels that defined us, AND to discover a new chapter.

Thank you #life. You’ve been magnificent to me. All the ups and downs, and your MANY lessons have brought me to this moment. I wouldn’t change a thing.

On the preface of her book, ‘Left to Tell’, Immaculée Ilibagiza writes:

“I believe our lives are interconnected and we’re meant to learn from one another’s experiences.”

If this encounter doesn’t prove it, I don’t know what does.

I met Immaculee by chance in Rwanda, then just a few days later our paths crossed again at the airport—right as I was about to buy her book.

Immaculée survived the 1994 Rwandan genocide and transformed an unimaginable story of loss, faith, and forgiveness into one that has inspired millions around the world.

Her story found me at exactly the right time. It reminded me that the world is so much bigger than the one we grow up knowing, and that sometimes the people we’re meant to meet arrive exactly when we need them.

Thank you, Immaculée for your kindness and generosity. I know our story is just beginning.

The thing about running a modern business is that you’re expected to be on Instagram.

The thing about Instagram is that it’s loud.

And the thing about noise? It can make you feel a little lost.

Maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

Because getting lost is how we wander.
And wandering is how we discover.

My point?

It took me 5 hours to make this 15-second reel.
