Shot on iPhone”: Isidore, patron saint of vibes and ambiance

What has the moon really accomplished, aside from merely existing for 4.5 billion years?

That’s the unspoken question that Boogie challenges the viewer to ponder through his sheer blasé indifference - he’s casually perched on a cross, taking zero safety precautions, and has in his hands what is essentially a fake moon in miniature. In doing so, he flips the traditional script of the universe reminding humanity that we’re mere blips compared to the infinity of space and time blah blah blah.
Boogie is not looking up at the moon in wonderment. Equally important, though, is that he’s not looking away from it, either: the moon is simply not occupying any of his thought space. Boogie is busy! He is performing labor in service of vibes and ambiance. (Isidro el Labrador aka “Isidore the Farmer” is the Catholic patron saint of the everyman laborer; he lived and died as a farmhand at the service of some petit bourgeois landowner in medieval Madrid.)

The (real) moon is a blip because it’s an inadequate source of light on almost every conceivable metric — no on/off switch, no dimmer, not enough lumens to provide meaningful illumination, color temperature is about 4000 Kelvins too white. It’s giving “haunted ICU at 3am” when the vibe we’re seeking is more along the lines of a warm incandescent glow that feels natural and effortless.

Just like the iPhone - the platonic ideal of an especially brutal type of invisible human labor - that captured Boogie’s moment of apathy toward all of the banal existential implications of the 4.5-billion-year-old real moon, while he was hanging up a bunch of tiny, practical, artificial moons that rendered the actual moon - in spite of its intrinsic gravitas, mystery, and enormity (I mean, it’s the f**king moon) - an inconsequential blip, dwarfed by a couple dozen Philips Hue Festivia string lights snagged from the clearance rack at Home Depot.
