🎙🌟 YOUR IRON POET CHAMPION IS NIC JEAN 🌟🎙 In a shocking turn of poetic pacifism, Madeline has officially forfeited her Iron Poet title win by 2.5 defense against challenger Nic Jean, citing her firm refusal to “fight until first blood.” Witnesses say the showdown was tense. Nic arrived armed with metaphors so sharp they had to be checked by TSA. Madeline, meanwhile, came dressed in peaceful protest, clutching a thesaurus and chanting, “Make puns, not war.” When asked why they wouldn’t proceed with the duel, Madeline declared, “I’m a poet, not a swashbuckler. I spill ink, not blood!” Nic Jean graciously accepted the forfeit, raising their quill in victory and whispering, “Roses are red, violets are blue, I didn’t draw blood -- they just withdrew.” The Iron Poet Council has confirmed the result and is reportedly adding a new rule: all future duels must include a safe word and a mandatory rhyme-off cooldown period. From all of us at the Dirty Gerund, we invite our community to join Jorge's family, friends, and loved ones as we gather to honor and remember his life. Jorge was family to so many of us, and we know the depth of this loss reaches far beyond any one room or group of people. As we continue to grieve the impossible reality of losing him, we hope those who loved him will come together to support his family and one another, share in his memory, and celebrate the person who meant so damn much to so many. She began her open mic journey at the Gerund over a decade ago and returning feels like coming home. Her work has been featured in several journals and anthologies including The Quiet Corner Poets and Alabaster & Mercury Volume 3. She hosted Coffee, Tea, & Poetry in Putnam CT from 2017-2024 and now runs the Rose City Poetry Series in Norwich CT. Her work is a courageous amalgamation of brutal truth and absurdist humor, exploring themes such as grief, trauma, surviving sexual abuse, healing, and neurodivergence. 💣BONUS RUCKUS: HOT SAUCE RUCKUS RETURNS! $15 CASH PRIZE! Joe Sweeney’s is all about ukulele. At the tender age of 45, Joe started writing songs about his anxieties, performing them on his uke. Resulting in his own brand of bittersweet goofball pop that has been just weird enough to gain traction in his home state of Maine. His second LP, “Party of One,” drops 8/7.
