It was so great to be back in Seattle and playing at my favorite venue, The Sunset Tavern in my favorite neighborhood of Ballard. I’m so happy that so many of you took the time out of your schedule to come to our show. Big thanks to Bigfoot Curious (@bigfootcurious) and Nate Bullock (@nate_sings_sometimes) for joining me on stage, and to Colin for running sound and making us sound great up there, and all the Sunset staff. Special thanks to Tyler Hamilton (@guiltytyler) for joining me on that Everly Brothers song that we didn’t rehearse, but totally nailed it. First off, thank you so much to Sheldon for putting together this wonderful showcase full of very talented singer-songwriters. It was an honor to be able to share the stage with them and be on the same bill. Secondly, thanks to everyone who came out to the show or came early and stayed until the end for my set. This music community has been one of the best parts of my time in Seattle and I will forever cherish it. Thirdly, Conor Byrne Pub for giving us the space to play and Mark behind the bar holding it down by himself all night on a busy one. Fourthly, many thanks to Tyler Hamilton for joining me unrehearsed on that Bruce Springsteen cover of ‘I’m On Fire’. I love spontaneous collaborations like that and it was one of my most favorite moments in my time here in Seattle. And lastly, but certainly not least, many many thanks to Casey (@callmecaseyy_ on IG, smileordont.com) for photographing the night on 35mm film, some on digital, as well as some of my set recorded on VHS (yes, that VHS). Check out his site, he does great work and is really fun and easy to shoot with. A fitting and fun send off as my last big show from Seattle before I move down to LA later this month.

That was a fun time with the house band playing songs we mostly never played before. Brought back another old song that I hadn’t played in awhile. Tried out ‘Joey’ by Concrete Blonde, which along with ‘Young Turks’ by Rod Stewart are some of my favorite songs that I’ve never fully played live before. I’ve tagged the chorus of ‘Young Turks’ onto my song ‘We Were Never Meant To Be’ many times, but I’ve never played the full song. And then closed the set out with Dave’s favorite song of mine, ‘Calendar Days’. Which is off my newest album ‘Quandary’, that I just released last Friday. Hello there!

It’s been a long time, but I have finally finished this “new” album of songs that I actually wrote and recorded a few years back. It got stuck on the shelf as I got distracted writing other albums (those will hopefully be out in the near-future too), and then got so busy and felt a bit detached from those songs. I dusted off those tracks and polished them up nicely for you in the form of ‘Quandary’; a tale of forbidden love by chance meeting, heartbreak, and the realization that it was always doomed from the start. Good times! Hope you like the album. Sorry it took so long!

Not like anyone pays attention to these posts anyway. I mostly post my setlist to keep my brain happy because it likes music stats and I’ve kept track of what I’ve played since the beginning of me playing live (1999), and of course for my mom, who is adorably my biggest fan :)

Here’s the last of the four songs from this past Monday that I played off my 2015 album ‘Things Since You’. I hadn’t played it live since 2014. So, technically I never played it after releasing the album. Thanks again to the house band for learning this one on the fly.
