Did you know…? Once gliders have launched, they can stay airborne using rising air currents, termed ‘lift’. Several different types of lift exist, the three main types being thermal, ridge, and wave lift.

106 flights. 40 hours in the air. And it all started with a sightseeing trip. ✈️
Kinga Gossa, our Office Manager for UK&I didn’t plan on becoming a glider pilot. She just looked up one day and thought, why not? Since then she’s tackled take-offs, landings and aerobatics, chased wave currents over North Wales at 14,500 feet, and is now working towards her SPL (Sailplane Pilot License).

But ask her what she loves most about gliding, and she won’t talk about the altitude. She will talk about the trust. The focus. The friendships forged over long days at the airfield and the stories that come after landing. The same things that make her brilliant in the air, adaptability, collaboration, showing up, are the same things she brings to work every single day.

Some passions find you when you least expect them. Kinga’s just happens to be 14,500 feet up. 🪂

Congratulations to Training Sec Ben for completing His cross country and nav training in graduated member Ben's (yes thats 2 separate people) motor glider!

He completed it with instructor Keith today and is very close to doing His SPL test!

“Rather them than me!” 😂

Yep. We get it.

You see a glider being towed into the sky and think:

“Absolutely not. You couldn’t pay me.”

But… hear us out.

Why NOT you? 👀

You don’t have to be a daredevil.
You don’t have to throw yourself out of a plane.
You don’t even have to know what half the instruments do.

You can simply… have a go.

And that thing you thought was terrifying?

Might turn out to be the most peaceful, exhilarating, ridiculously beautiful thing you’ve ever done.

So go on.

Let someone else say “rather them than me.”

And it could be you saying:
“Why not me?” ✈️😎

Over summer, club member Rob Gollings brought out his privately-owned Schempp-Hirth Discus CS [G-CKAP] for some fantastic soaring high above the Lincolnshire countryside!
