Today, we’re marking the very first International Day of Air Sports by celebrating the heart and soul of the Lincolnshire Gliding Club: our incredible team of volunteers at Strubby South Airfield.

Behind every winch launch, circuit, and soaring flight, it’s the dedicated efforts of our members that keep our operations running safely and smoothly week after week. From our flight instructors guiding students through their syllabus to our winch drivers, launch marshals, airfield maintenance crew, and committee members, every flight is a collective effort powered entirely by our passion for aviation and our local community.

Air sports simply wouldn’t exist without the selfless work of the people behind the scenes, and we'd like to extend a huge thank you to all of our instructors, winch drivers, and ground crew for their ongoing commitment. If you're ready to begin your own piloting journey or experience gliding for yourself at Strubby South Airfield, please get in touch!

106 flights. 40 hours in the air. And it all started with a sightseeing trip. ✈️
Kinga Gossa, our Office Manager for UK&I didn’t plan on becoming a glider pilot. She just looked up one day and thought, why not? Since then she’s tackled take-offs, landings and aerobatics, chased wave currents over North Wales at 14,500 feet, and is now working towards her SPL (Sailplane Pilot License).

But ask her what she loves most about gliding, and she won’t talk about the altitude. She will talk about the trust. The focus. The friendships forged over long days at the airfield and the stories that come after landing. The same things that make her brilliant in the air, adaptability, collaboration, showing up, are the same things she brings to work every single day.

Some passions find you when you least expect them. Kinga’s just happens to be 14,500 feet up. 🪂

Gliding is where it's at! Too young to drive, old enough to fly!
Just some photos I took at the Bidford Regionals 2026!

Do it! In all seriousness, if you've ever wanted to fly, there's probably no better (or cheaper) way to start than with gliding. Additional credit if you start before you can even legally drive!

As the Sun sets on a successful day at PSGC, junior Charlie celebrated completing his SPL.

We're awaiting verification but we believe this will make him the current youngest SPL and FRTOL holder in the UK.

Charlie is very grateful to @theairleague and @royalaeroclubtrust , whose support made this possible.

Special thanks to Julian from @nenevalleygc who was his assessor.
