📍Life update: I started my Masters because the only thing that should be getting one degree hotter is me.

Getting here has been a team effort. I’m thankful for Hertie’s Climate Action Scholarship and The Social Hub’s Changemakers Scholarship that enable me to do this degree.

I’m also incredibly grateful for my lawyers for making sure I actually get to be here; for the many friends and loved ones who helped with my essays, heard me cry, and helped me move; for my colleagues and mentors (also friends) who wrote my LORs and believed in me; and for my mother for standing by me.

This planet is the love of my life and I’ve worked for years to stop people from plundering it. During this time I also realised that the policies we have are often not created in consultation with affected communities, and don’t always consider environmental and social impacts. A recent UNEP report also reinforced what climate advocates have been saying for years - that our current climate plans are not enough to keep global temperatures from rising. I hope to spend the next 2 years learning to build and implement policies that center justice and equity.

I plan to continue my work here and I’m looking to connect with people who work at the intersections of climate justice. Please slide into my DMs or email me if you’d like to scheme together! by @disharavii

If not now when?
For more than a decade, scientists have warned that the window for meaningful climate action is closing. Yet emissions continue, global targets remain unmet, and false solutions from “abated fossil fuels” to carbon capture continue to dominate negotiations.

Nepal’s recent flash floods and the climate disasters unfolding across the world are not distant projections. They are the lived reality of communities who have contributed the least but are paying the highest price.

As we approach COP31, we urge the @turkiyecop31 @muratkurum Presidency——-to centre the voices and realities of climatevulnerable countries like Nepal and highlight the decisions and decisions on this massive loss…

Climate action cannot be driven by profit, fossil fuel interests and power. It must be driven by justice, accountability and the survival of people and planet.
We do not need another decade of empty net-zero promises and delayed targets. We need real emission cuts. Real zero. A rapid fossil fuel phase-out not transitioning away. And reparative, grant-based climate finance directly accessible to frontline communities. The once surviving needs this assistance.
If not now, when?Calling all global communities @350_asia @350org @priceofoil @fossilfueltreaty @apwld_ @arrow_women @womenstrongintl @greenpeace @greenpeace.southasia @can.international @climatetracker @climatetrackerasia @cjaourpower and all the delegates, activists friends @mitzijonelle @jepestela @krishnaariola @shibayan.raha @disharavii @fentonlutun @chuckbaclagon @amanullah_porag and all from Nepal… organisations and individuals and governments itself of vulnerable countries including pacific islands- its not about me, u and someone else- climate justice is for everyone no one is in other side- we all are on same boat !!! #climatejusticenow #Nepaldemandsclimatejustice #Nepalaskforaccountability say no to loans @pmonepal @swarnim_wagle @balenshah by @disharavii

Earlier this year, we shared a conversation between @disharavii and @mitzijonelle on their time organising together in the climate movement, and how the community they built and friendships they made still hold them up today.

You’re magical ✨ Get organized, build community, learn from previous and current social justice movements (especially anti-colonial and anti-imperialist ones), learn theory from the Global Majority (global south), strategize and plan campaigns that target fossil capital infrastructure, hold each other accountable and hold each other in embrace 💖

🌎 Generation Hope 🌎

Throughout the week, we have been inviting the collaborators of the Natural History Museum’s annual youth climate and nature programme, Generation Hope, to share their favourite #WPY photographs throughout the years.

Today, Disha Ravi (@disharavii) discusses her highlight, ‘See No Evil’ by Aaron Gekoski (@aaron_gekoski).

"I first saw this image last year at the WPY exhibition and it stayed with me. If we did this to humans, it would be called 'dehumanising' but we haven't even created a word for the exploitation of animals. The subjugation of animals is so normalised that we don't see it as an issue.

“Even when we do oppose it, it's often based on the aesthetics or intelligence or usefulness of an animal, for example, the harassment of a tiger is more likely to get attention that the harassment of a blobfish. The day we stop seeing animals as lesser beings is the day we will inch closer to a world where humans live in harmony with the natural world."

📸 ‘See No Evil’ by Aaron Gekoski was highly commended in the Photojournalism category of #WPY60.

A big thank you to Disha and Aaron for today’s pick, plus all our Generation Hope collaborators this week for their contributions.

Generation Hope returns to the Museum 23-26 April. To find out more, including how to reserve your free spaces, as well as more info on this year’s #WPY exhibition, head to the link in bio!

A ceasefire has been announced, but we cannot look away. ❤‍🩹🍉

We celebrate with the people of Gaza who are hopeful that now they will not have to fear daily bombings from Israel. But we want to remind folks across the world that this is not the end. A ceasefire doesn’t end the lasting impacts of starvation and ecocide, and it doesn’t end Israel’s violent occupation of Palestine.

Those responsible for those crimes are yet to be held accountable, but they will.

This November, the International People’s Tribunal on the Forced Starvation and Ecocide in Palestine will take place in Barcelona, a people-led effort to hold Israel and the US accountable.

So keep speaking up, keep boycotting, divesting and calling for sanctions, and keep mobilizing for a free Palestine!

More info on boycotts and campaigns here: @bdsmovement

turning my story into a post so it lives longer. if what’s happening in Palestine isn’t making you angry or hurting you or making you uncomfortable then you’re either not paying attention enough or you’re ignoring your own feelings. what’s happening in Palestine has happened before in other places, is happening in other communities, and so it can happen to you. the same oppressors and systems doing and allowing a genocide in Palestine are the same ones that are already or will make your life miserable. no one is free until we are all free!! we’re all in this together against the imperialist ruling class so please sit with the discomfort because we need your hearts to break open so that revolutionary love and fire can enter. by @disharavii

SHARE THIS 🚨 Our friend @gretathunberg and 462 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla were kidnapped in international waters by Israel and recently released flotilla members have reported extreme abuse of members still in Israeli detention.

141 have been released. 321 are still imprisoned. Reports say Greta and others have been beaten, abused, and denied food, water, and medicine. Their aid to Gaza was stolen.

Civilians should never have to risk their lives to deliver aid. This is the failure of governments and systems built on colonial power that have failed Palestinians and failed all of us.

Call on your governments to demand their release, end the blockade, and stop the genocide. Share this post and speak out for Gaza.

It’s time to invest in what we have left: each other. Mutual aid is a concrete way to slowly build networks, relationships, and alternative systems of care and community.

Donate in the link in my bio!!! Mutual aid means we do what we can and trust that others will do what they can! If you have questions, feel free to comment or dm me! I would love to create a network together that participates in mutual aid regularly through donations but also through sharing resources with each other!

Learned a lot about mutual aid from other activists talking about it like @gabestorres and @kimsaira!! by @disharavii
