What advice would you give to someone pursing OCS and or residency ?

Dr. Julie hit it on the nail 🎯. Know your WHY and understand what drives you. Money shouldn’t be your sole motivation because specializing or completing a residency doesn’t always translate into higher pay. Pursue it because you’re passionate about becoming the best clinician you can be, committed to lifelong learning, and willing to invest in your professional growth. But remember, you can strive for excellence while still maintaining balance and having a life outside of physical therapy. Your career is important, but so is your well-being!

You’re not always going to be perfect. Every grade won’t be an A, and one failure does NOT determine the type of clinician you’ll become.

The key is learning how to turn every failure into a WIN. 📚💪🏾

I can’t lie… it was HARD filming this episode, and even harder for me to post it. ❤️‍🩹

I apologize for the delay. I posted this video late last night, but honestly, I needed time to process the vulnerability that came with sharing this part of my story.

In this episode, you’re seeing me at what was truly the lowest point of my PT journey. I was scared. I was hurt. I was uncertain about my future. And I had no idea how my story was going to end.

But now, looking back, this episode is also a reminder of HOW FAR I’VE COME. 🥹

The same person who was once dismissed from PT school…
The same person who had to fight to be readmitted…
The same person who questioned whether she would ever become a physical therapist…

became Dr. Bria J. 🎓✨

I’m sharing this not because it’s easy to relive, but because I know someone out there is currently sitting in their own lowest moment, wondering if their dream is over.

I pray this episode finds you at the right time and reminds you that dismissal does not have to be the end of your story.

The truth of the matter is, you have to prioritize yourself. ❤️

Don’t sacrifice your sleep or stay up late thinking that more hours automatically mean better grades. Study smart, not just longer.

And while you’re in graduate school, continue to pour into yourself. That one hour you take for yourself—to rest, work out, journal, pray, meditate, or simply do something that brings you joy—can be the very thing that helps you reset and keep going.

Graduate school will demand a lot from you, but you cannot pour from an empty cup.

So always remember: FILL YOUR CUP! ✨

Your well-being matters, too.

Let’s talk about it! 👏🏾

One of my biggest regrets after my first dismissal was not taking the time to truly understand why I was dismissed. Looking back, addressing those things sooner could have potentially prevented my second dismissal.

But at the time, I didn’t know what I know now. And sometimes, life has a way of teaching you through experience.

So here I am, sharing what I learned so you don’t have to learn it the hard way. ❤️

Take the time to self-reflect. Get to the root of why you were dismissed. What contributed to it? What needs to change? What support do you need?

The first step is accountability. The next step is putting a plan into action to make sure you don’t repeat the same patterns.

That’s why I dedicated the first chapter of The Readmission Playbook to accountability. I walk you through the process of identifying what went wrong, taking ownership, and creating a plan for moving forward.

This is for the student who is feeling defeated after rejection after rejection.

For the student who is investing in their future with everything they have.

Keep going. Keep believing. Keep betting on yourself. Your investment may not pay off immediately, but one day you’ll look back and realize it was worth every sacrifice.

Higher education is an investment—not just financially, but in your time, energy, and belief in yourself.

You have to believe that you can achieve the thing you’re praying and working so hard for. Your current circumstances do not determine your final outcome.

Bet on yourself now. Reap the rewards later. 🤍

Your “yes” is still possible. Keep going.
