District Sounds 2026 was everything. 🎶

The most perfect spring day. The wind during the Argentine orchestra, as if it had been part of the setlist all along. People dancing to Verny Varela and Tumbao’s salsa. Flamenco and tap at sunset. Carly Harvey singing Nina Simone alongside the kids from CHEC. Singing along to Oddisee’s That’s Love, a song that feels like it was written for this exact day. And then, at the end of the night, something quiet and magical — the orchestra playing, the waterfront still, all of us just there.

This festival is built on community. So many of the people who make District Sounds happen are volunteers who show up out of pure love for music and for this city. Watching this project grow year after year fills us with gratitude and excitement for what comes next.

Thank you to everyone who came, who performed, who helped make it happen. See you next year. 🤍

Flamenco meets tap. Spain meets America. Two of the world’s great percussive dance traditions, face to face on the same stage. 💃🏼🕺

Francisco “Yiyi” Orozco is a Spanish flamenco master who began his professional career at 12 years old, performing on Broadway, throughout Europe, Japan, Venezuela and Taiwan alongside some of the most celebrated names in flamenco.

joseph webb is an interdisciplinary artist rooted in African diasporic vernacular dance, music and poetics. A Tony Award winning Broadway veteran and Young Arts Fellow supported by The Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The New York Times calls him “a natural star: a fabulous tap dancer who also raps, sings.”

Meet DC’s Queen of the Blues. 👑

Carly Harvey is a Washington DC based Blues artist whose sound bridges Blues, Jazz, Soul and Indigenous American music. The originator of Native Scat, an improvisational fusion of Jazz scat singing with Indigenous American vocables that reflects her Afro Indigenous heritage, Carly is one of the most distinctive voices in the genre today.

A Wammie winner for Best Blues Song (Misery) and Best Jazz Song (Please Do That To Me), three time DC Blues Society Battle of the Bands winner, and a 2025 contestant on NBC’s The Voice where she earned praise from Team Bublé for her rich tone and originality.

At District Sounds, Carly and her 8 piece band share the stage with students from Columbia Heights Education Campus in a powerful moment of mentorship and live music.

Some performances only happen once. This is one of them.

ODDISEE & Good Compny joins forces with the Georgetown University Orchestra in an unprecedented closing performance with nearly 80 people on stage.

Critically acclaimed rapper, producer and DMV native, Oddisee merges jazz, funk, go-go and hip hop into something entirely his own. Last year he shared the stage with CHEC students at District Sounds. This year he’s closing the night with an orchestra.

April 18 at The Wharf, DC.

🎟️ Tickets in bio. 2x1 still available! Every ticket goes directly toward programs with local public schools and supporting young and emerging artists in DC.

Salsa straight from Cali, coming to The Wharf. 🪇

Oyster-Adams School Choir joins forces with Verny Varela y Tumba’o for one of the most joyful collisions of the night.

Verny Varela is a DC based composer, arranger, singer and multi instrumentalist rooted in the salsa tradition of Cali, Colombia. He toured alongside legends of the Fania All Stars and earned his doctorate at Howard University researching Afro Colombian music as a form of cultural resistance. He brings all of that history and warmth to the stage.

And sharing the stage with all of them: DC public school students from Oyster School.

Our first artist is unlike anything you’ve seen before. 🌎

The Orchestra of Indigenous Instruments and New Technologies opens the night at District Sounds. A Buenos Aires ensemble that recovers hundreds of forgotten pre-Columbian instruments and brings them back to life alongside electronic technology, native dance, and ancestral ceremony.

The New York Times called it “a strange ceremony celebrating the connections of culture with the Earth.” Radio France called it “a shamanic ritual more than a spectacle.” We’ll just say: come see it for yourself.
