📊 Have you seen the latest nutrition stats?

The demographic profile of the nutrition field has remained largely unchanged—and these numbers tell a story we can’t ignore.

Here at Diversify Dietetics, we’re working to change the narrative by creating programs that support and uplift nutrition professionals of color.

But we can’t do this without YOU.

💡 Together, we can build a more inclusive, representative nutrition field that reflects the communities we serve.

Support our Fund the Future Campaign today and help us make an even greater impact in 2025. Every contribution counts! Donate today via 🔗 in bio.

According to the Commission on Dietetic Registration, less than 18,000 RDNs are BIPOC. Let that sink in for a moment- in a country with over 331 million people, there are less than 18,000 RDNs who identify as people of color. Keep in mind- everyone eats…

Alarmingly, ACEND data reports that the number of all dietetics students declined in the past year. This decline was much more pronounced in BIPOC students. While it’s too early to tell for sure what the cause or causes were in this sharp decline (COVID, the graduate requirement, economy ,etc)  this decline is telling us more support is needed. More alarmingly, even prior to the events of 2020, we were seeing a steady decline in Black students in particular.

On the other side of the equation- BIPOC RDNS are retiring every day, and some are choosing to leave the profession. And communities of color are seeing increases in health disparities and have a greater interest in improving their health with cultural and ancestral foodways.

We could go on and on… but we think you get where we’re going. We started DD in April 2018 to create a community to support BIPOC students and young professionals, and by extension, to improve health equity in communities of color. We could not have anticipated how important our work would be at that time.  But we are determined to continue to support BIPOC students and professionals, and to ensure that the diverse communities we serve receive the care they deserve and have a right to.
---
We have just four days left in this year’s Fund the Future 2024 campaign ✨ Please donate today to help us continue this important work, help us support more BIPOC students and professionals, and help us change the face of nutrition 🙏🏽

DD Fam, we’re counting down the days to FNCE! 🎉

Elisa from our DD team is a San Antonio local and has curated a list of some of her favorite gems across the city. 📍✨

We hope you’ll get a chance to explore the 210 while you’re here! 🏙️ From coffee shops and museums to opportunities to get outside and move, there’s a little something for everyone. ☕👟🖼️💃

Many of these spots are within walking distance of the convention center, while a few are just a short drive or scooter ride away. And don’t forget about the River Walk—a long stretch of walking and biking trails with plenty of businesses and attractions along the way. 🚲🌿

📲 Ready to explore? Check out our San Antonio City Guide for the full list of recommendations! Save it for your trip and use it to discover a few new favorites along the way. ✨

For details like hours of operation, addresses, and more, please visit each business or organization’s website or social media.

We can’t wait to see you all in the 210! More to come on this soon 😉✨

DD Fam, we need your help! ⭐

We’re so excited to have 80 mentees signed up for the upcoming DD Mentor Program, but right now, we only have 35 mentors ready to support them.

If you’re a dietitian or nutrition professional who’s been thinking about becoming a mentor, we’d love to have you join us.

Your experience, perspective, and guidance can make a meaningful difference for a student or early-career professional navigating their path in dietetics.

Consider signing up as a DD Mentor and help us make sure every mentee has someone in their corner!

In this episode of Feed Me the Facts, Deanna sits down with Dr. Antonio Miranda—a proud Mexican-American, first-generation college graduate, registered dietitian, certified diabetes care and education specialist, researcher, educator, and author—to explore his groundbreaking work on “medical machismo” and health behaviors among Hispanic men and communities of color. 🧔🏽‍♂️💪🏽

With a doctorate in nutrition and health behavior, Dr. Miranda has worked with more than 2,000 patients and taught at institutions including Dallas College, Texas Woman’s University, and Andrews University. His research focuses on machismo, dichos, and culturally grounded approaches to prevention and chronic disease care, while his work as a public speaker, entrepreneur, and author reflects his broader mission to uplift first-generation students and improve Hispanic health outcomes through education, empathy, and culturally responsive care.🫶🏽📚🍎🥑✏️👨🏽‍🏫
