🌬️ SAC stands for Surface Air Consumption. Your Surface Air Consumption rate is a measurement of the amount of air you consume while breathing for one minute, on the surface. You use this measurement to then determine how much gas to bring on dives.
🤔 Would you rather get your SAC rate as low as possible? Or would you apply it with some padding and use a higher number than your actual optimal consumption rate?

😍 The beauties we get to see during our missions for the DiveSAGA channel 🖤
👉 This is the HMS Stubborn. A world war II submarine off of the coast of Malta.
💥 She played an active role in the Pacific theater, sinking enemy oil rigs, before being scuttled and used as target practice.
💪 Even after all that, and over 70 years on the sea floor, she is still in remarkable shape!
📉 At a depth of around 56m

🎥 I have put the final touches on our Documentary "TWO CAVES" about the Krizna Jama project.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE – The BiG Scuba Podcast | Episode 236

This week we are joined by Nick Derutter from DiveSAGA — underwater filmmaker, scuba instructor trainer, technical diver and cave explorer.

Nick's diving journey started with a Discover Scuba on the Great Barrier Reef, but it certainly did not stop there! 🌊🤿

We talk about his journey into professional diving and instructor training, why he deliberately keeps challenging himself by learning new skills such as sidemount, and what draws him into cave exploration.

Nick also tells us about a recent expedition in Slovenia, where the team explored highly protected caves, collected scientific samples, investigated possible connections between cave systems and even discovered the bones of an extinct cave bear. 🐻

And then there is the filmmaking. Nick explains how his background in film eventually came together with diving, leading to his DiveSAGA YouTube channel and Scuba Science — using video to educate, explain and inspire divers.

There is also a fascinating conversation around diving education, safety, redundancy, buoyancy, technical thinking and the responsibility of creating good, factual content in an age of AI.

It is a conversation packed with diving, exploration, education and plenty to think about.

Careers in SCUBA Diving are very real.
👉 Invest in proper training
👉 Find mentors who will push you
👉 Prioritize your health and safety
👉 Continuously seek discomfort
👉 Keep being a student
👉 Offer valuable experiences to your peers
👉 Keep the spark alive

I chose this career path almost 17 years ago. I have not looked back even once. In an industry where it's popular to say that "you can't make any money in scuba diving", success is about mindset, passion and conducting yourself as a business professional.
