We're excited to announce Permacomputing Club London as part of Peckham Digital's programme at Creative Intelligence at Southbank Centre!

Permacomputing Club London is a weekly, in-person meetup exploring resilient and sustainable approaches to technology through DIY practices, critical theory, practical and artistic workshops, and community events.

The club is a welcoming space for anyone interested in sharing skills, experimenting with minimal and low-tech computing, and learning hands-on maintenance and repair. Whether you're curious about sustainable technology or looking to connect with like-minded people, this is a great opportunity to get involved.

after surrounding ourselves with fans 🪭🪭🪭🪭🪭 (it was a hot day) everyone introduced themselves and Youjin shared a bit about herself, her background, Woman Open Tech Lab and its many activities and projects. then we explored how the Code Meal Kit can support critical and imaginative engagements with technological cultures, surfacing shared questions, curiosities and commitments.

afterwards a group of us went on to see @hotemogf's PAGASA (Hope) with @kaloyanez at V&A late, organised by @carriechan_net. 🌴🛰️🌌✨

thanks to @joycentrism for the pictures (1-9) and cold brew tea 🍵🧊, to the REACH space for hosting us, to all involved in organising and supporting, to all who came to catch up, chat and hang out - and to Youjin for making the trip to see us, for the inspiration, the exchanges and for providing us with an occasion to gather. 💜

‘Fingers crossed’ traces the history of the microchip, from the hands that crafted the very first examples 70 years ago to today’s automated, ultra-miniature production. The lecture/performance presents archival materials, works of contemporary art, and original research on an interactive platform built in collaboration with @dj_anicka and hosted by Superkilogirls.com.

Want to explore how to make tech more sustainable? Maybe you’re interested in how can we rethink our relationship to harmful technologies? Permacomputing Club returns tonight and every Monday at SET Social from 6.30-7.30pm.

Driven by anti-capitalist values, this project led by @dj_anicka builds a space in direct opposition to harmful tech monopolies and resource-heavy systems. The club’s ethos is deeply inspired by permaculture and degrowth, and guided by decolonial thinking and intersectional feminism.

Rather than focusing on tech “solutionism” or inventing greener gadgets, this is a collaborative space centred on how hardware and software can prioritise adaptability, transparency, and care. Drop by to share skills, explore regenerative computing, practice repair, and strategise ways to reduce the stranglehold of these pernicious systems.

Everyone is welcome, and the club particularly encourages women and non-binary folks to join us.

Technology shapes our bodies as our bodies metabolize technology. Women played a central role in building the hardware that powered 200 years of technological development. Their contributions to the waged workforces were threatened by automation from the onset, yet their precision and dexterity were indispensible to what we know as hardware today. ‘The Manual for Superfluous Motions’ tracks small acts on the factory line that interrupted, refused, exceeded, or otherwise interfered with seamless production.

The interactive website is built around the wireframe, a basic structure used in web design. Wireframes were also an early form of computer memory, hand-woven by workers recruited from textile mills and watch factories. The wireframe used here draws on a type of core rope memory developed to send the Apollo 11 missions into space (final image).

Plants are good. Electricity is fun. What happens when we bring the two together? 🌱⚡

Mud Volts is a hands-on permacomputing workshop exploring sustainable, resilient approaches to technology, taking place as part of SET Social’s March Community Day and Market this Sunday.

Inspired by Sunjoo Lee’s Electric Garden, this session will build plant-powered “mud cells” using soil-based microbial fuel cells that generate small amounts of electricity. Together, participants will experiment, learn, and collectively decide what low-power device to fuel during the workshop.

Hosted by @dj_anicka’s Permacomputing Club, the session invites reflection on how technology can be designed with adaptability, care and ecological awareness in mind.

All materials are provided. The session is free to attend.

Coding Workshop

Storytelling for the Service and Repair of Code
with the London Permacomputing Club
15 February 2026, 11:00–16:00 at unsorted.love

Workshop Introduction & Goals 
“Repair, after all, is a social activity.” – Shannon Mattern 
This workshop explores code as a medium for communicating methodology to human readers. Through practices of Literate Programming and explanatory storytelling, we will examine the “repair manual” as a form and the relationships we develop with our functional digital possessions.
Participants will look at the history of home-repair manuals and consider the boundaries of traditional code documentation. We will work together through an example piece of code or a digital project and develop a literate manual that explains its theory of operation. Attendees will produce similar resources using whatever literary or artistic methods best clarify their chosen piece, contributing to a collective anthology.  

What Participants Will Be Doing
* Discuss the role of code as a communicative tool.
* Study examples of manuals and documentation practices.
* Create a literate, story-driven explanation of a code sample or digital artefact.
* Collaborate in groups and produce materials for a compiled anthology on software repair.

 Practical Requirements 
Participants should bring at least one sample of working code or a creative tech project (their own or someone else’s) to include in the activity. This could be a project you enjoy explaining or something you want to explore more deeply. The literate programming tools demonstrated will require:
* A computer capable of running Python 3
* Any text or code editor of your choice
Feel free to bring additional artistic tools if they help you tell the story of your chosen piece—we will assist in integrating these into the final work.

 The workshop will be held in English and is free of charge, funded by Arts Council England - Developing Your Creative Practice Grant.

THANK YOU for joining us! The first ever international Permacomputing meetup at Stroom, hosted in collaboration with the Willem de Kooning Academy Research Centre, brought together members of a growing community inspired by permaculture and focused on resilience and regenerativity in computer and network technology.

Over two days, groups from the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK shared tools, reflections, and approaches to rethink everyday technology and computational culture. The sessions sparked discussions on ecological and communal infrastructures, care in technical systems, and sustainable computing practices.

A huge thank you to all participants: your energy, ideas, and contributions made this first international meetup a success!

Brewing Permacomputing Collectives is part of the contextual programme to the exhibition ave bossa, bow ole by Jenna Sutela. The exhibition introduces the term ‘tech povera’, coined by Sutela, to describe the an approach to technology that is raw, experimental, and both live and alive.

The event is made possible with support from Stroom Den Haag, expectation.fail, Stimuleringsfonds, Willem de Kooning Academy Research Centre, the UK Government, and Arts Council England.

TALKS – Stroom and Willem de Kooning Academy Research Centre invite you to Brewing Permacomputing Collectives. Discover how international permacomputing groups are shaping technology and networks in sustainable and collective ways, inspired by permaculture.
