A major meta-analysis published in Psychological Medicine examined 63 studies involving 265,079 people and found that cannabis use was associated with 2.05 times the odds of perpetrating violence in the general population. Among psychiatric patients, the odds were 2.49 times higher. The strongest associations were found for violence resulting in a criminal conviction.

The researchers also found that cannabis use was associated with a 49% increase in the odds of becoming a victim of violence. The association with perpetrating violence remained statistically significant in both longitudinal studies (OR 1.17) and cross-sectional studies (OR 2.37).

The findings highlight a substantial relationship between cannabis use and violence across the populations studied. The authors emphasize that cannabis use should be routinely assessed in psychiatric patients, and identify it as a potential target for interventions aimed at reducing violence.

What you eat may influence more than your physical health. Scientists are investigating whether blueberries could affect mood by changing the activity of bacteria living in your gut. 🧠
🔬 WHO CONDUCTED THE RESEARCH?
Researchers at Hebrew SeniorLife’s Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research in Boston, Massachusetts, led the study, with collaborators from Harvard Medical School, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and the University of Connecticut.
📚 WHERE WAS IT PUBLISHED?
The study was published in 2026 in The Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging.
📊 WHAT DID THE RESEARCHERS DO?
👥 18 adults aged 65 and older completed the small pilot study. Participants were older, physically inactive adults experiencing mild depressive symptoms.
🫐 THE DAILY DOSE: One group consumed 48 grams of blueberry powder daily for three months—approximately equivalent to two cups of fresh blueberries. Another group received a placebo.
🧠 MOOD CHANGES: Participants consuming blueberries showed a greater and more consistent reduction in depressive symptoms. However, the difference compared with the placebo group was not statistically significant.
🦠 THE GUT-BRAIN CONNECTION: Researchers detected changes in genes associated with certain gut microbial enzymes, including an enzyme involved in GABA-related processes. GABA is a neurotransmitter involved in brain signaling.

The researchers believe blueberry fiber and anthocyanins—plant compounds responsible for much of their blue-purple color—could help explain these effects. Larger studies are needed to find out whether these changes meaningfully affect mood.

🚨 YOUR DIET MAY CHANGE HOW OLD YOUR BODY LOOKS BIOLOGICALLY — IN JUST 4 WEEKS.
What if changing the balance of fat, carbohydrates, and protein in your diet could make some markers of aging look younger? 🧬
Researchers at the University of Sydney in Australia investigated how different dietary patterns affect biological age in older adults.
🔬 HOW WAS THE STUDY CONDUCTED?
📍 The study was carried out through the university’s Charles Perkins Centre, as part of its Nutrition for Healthy Living research.
👥 104 adults aged 65–75 were randomly assigned to one of four diets for four weeks.
🥗 Researchers compared diets that varied in fat and carbohydrate intake, as well as the proportion of protein from animal versus plant sources.
📊 WHAT DID THEY FIND?
🧬 BIOLOGICAL AGE MARKERS CHANGED: Three of the four diet groups showed reductions in their estimated biological age based on 20 health biomarkers.
🥑 THE HIGH-FAT DIET DIDN’T SHOW THE SAME CHANGE: Participants following the omnivorous, higher-fat diet showed no meaningful reduction in the biological-age estimate.
🍞 THE STRONGEST RESULT: The clearest statistical evidence appeared in the omnivorous, lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate group.
🩸 WHAT DID SCIENTISTS MEASURE? The researchers combined biomarkers including cholesterol, insulin, and C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation, to estimate biological age.
📚 WHERE WAS IT PUBLISHED?
The findings were published in the peer-reviewed journal Aging Cell in 2026.

🚨 THE BIGGEST COLLAGEN REVIEW YET REVEALS WHAT MAY ACTUALLY WORK!
Collagen supplements promise glowing skin, healthier joints, stronger muscles, and faster workout recovery. But how much of this is supported by science? 🧬
🔬 WHO CONDUCTED THE RESEARCH?
Researchers led by Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in the United Kingdom, working in collaboration with Dr. Roshan Ravindran of KLNIK, conducted a comprehensive review of existing collagen research.
📚 WHERE WAS IT PUBLISHED?
The findings were published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum in 2026.
📊 HOW BIG WAS THE REVIEW?
Rather than recruiting a new group of participants, researchers analyzed existing evidence from:
* 16 systematic reviews
* 113 randomized controlled trials
* 7,983 participants worldwide
✨ WHAT DID THEY FIND?
👩‍🦰 SKIN: Collagen supplementation was associated with improved skin hydration and elasticity, particularly with longer use.
🦴 JOINTS: Evidence suggested reduced pain and stiffness in people with osteoarthritis.
💪 MUSCLES & TENDONS: Some modest benefits were found for muscle mass and tissue structure.
🏋️ WORKOUT RECOVERY: The review found little meaningful evidence that collagen reduces muscle soreness or improves athletic performance.

🚨 SCIENTISTS MAY HAVE FOUND A WAY TO MAKE DAMAGED EYE CELLS ACT YOUNGER.
What if aging-related vision loss could one day be reversed—not just slowed down? 👁️🧬
Researchers are testing an experimental therapy designed to reprogram damaged cells in the eye, potentially restoring some of their lost function.
🔬 Here’s what happened:
👁️ 3 people with glaucoma received the experimental treatment in an ongoing Phase 1 clinical trial.
🧬 The therapy uses three cellular reprogramming factors to reset patterns of gene activity, aiming to make damaged retinal ganglion cells function more like younger, healthier cells.
📈 2 of the 3 participants showed early improvements in their visual fields eight weeks after treatment.
🧪 The initial trial is primarily designed to evaluate safety. Researchers say the early findings are encouraging and plan to investigate a higher dose.

💡 Why it matters: Instead of simply managing symptoms, scientists are exploring whether aging-related cellular damage can be addressed by restoring how cells function.
Could cellular reprogramming become a new frontier in treating age-related diseases? The next clinical trials will be crucial.

🚨 LONELINESS MAY COST YOU YEARS OF HEALTHY LIFE.
A major study involving 277,489 adults found that loneliness and social isolation were associated with fewer years free from serious physical and mental health conditions. The mental-health findings were especially striking. 🧠
📊 What researchers found:
* 👨 Men experiencing both loneliness and social isolation had about 5.8 fewer years free from depression and anxiety.
* 👩 Women experiencing both had about 3.7 fewer years free from these mental health conditions.
* ❤️ The physical-health impact was smaller, but still meaningful.
* 🏃 Healthy habits—including exercise, better nutrition, adequate sleep, and not smoking—were associated with less loss of healthy years linked to social isolation.
⚠️ Important: This was an observational study, so it cannot prove that loneliness directly causes these outcomes. Researchers say more studies are needed to understand the relationship.
💡 The takeaway: Health isn’t just about what you eat or how often you exercise. Meaningful social connection may matter, too. Make time for the people who make you feel seen, supported, and connected.

WHY DOES CANNABIS MAKE SOME PEOPLE FEEL CALM — BUT SEND OTHERS INTO A PANIC?
Scientists may have uncovered a clue hidden deep inside the brain.
A new study from Northwestern University, published in Nature Communications, identified a group of neurons in the brain’s fear center that may help explain why THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, can trigger anxiety.
🧠 HERE’S WHAT THEY FOUND:
Researchers gave mice a synthetic cannabinoid and exposed them to a scent associated with predators.
The mice showed more fear-related behavior, including freezing and avoiding the threatening scent.
Scientists traced this response to a specific group of brain cells called somatostatin neurons, located in the central amygdala — a region involved in fear and stress.
🔥 THE SURPRISING PART?
Cannabinoids appeared to weaken the brain’s natural mechanism for restraining these neurons.
With that natural “brake” weakened, the neurons became more active, potentially amplifying the brain’s fear response.
When researchers genetically silenced these neurons in mice, the cannabinoid-related anxious behavior decreased.
WHY THIS MATTERS
It may help explain why cannabis can feel relaxing in one situation but overwhelming in another — especially when someone consumes a high dose or is already stressed.
Researchers hope this discovery could eventually help scientists develop ways to reduce cannabis-related anxiety and better understand anxiety disorders.

WHAT IF YOU COULD LOSE FAT WITHOUT LOSING PRECIOUS MUSCLE AS YOU AGE?
A six-month study published in Maturitas suggests that the type of workout you choose may make a difference.
Researchers studied 123 healthy older adults, with an average age of 72, who completed supervised workouts three times a week for six months.
They compared three approaches:
🏃 High-intensity interval training (HIIT)
🚶 Moderate-intensity exercise
🧘 Low-intensity exercise
The results? 👇
🔥 HIIT reduced body fat while preserving lean mass.
💪 Moderate-intensity exercise also reduced fat, but participants experienced a small decline in lean mass.
❤️ Both HIIT and moderate-intensity training improved measures of abdominal fat distribution, including visceral fat — the fat stored deep inside the abdomen around your organs.
Why does this matter?
As we age, maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important for strength, balance, mobility, and independence. Losing weight isn’t necessarily the same as improving body composition.
THE BIG TAKEAWAY: Your goal shouldn’t just be to weigh less. It should be to lose excess fat while maintaining the muscle that keeps you strong.

🚨 A NEW STUDY HAS UNCOVERED A DISTURBING BLIND SPOT IN PUBLIC HEALTH.
Researchers studied more than 130,000 babies born in Georgia and tracked their fathers over the following five years.
The findings were heartbreaking.
Out of 130,267 births, 796 fathers died within five years of their child’s birth.
Even more alarming? Approximately 60% of those deaths were considered potentially preventable.
The leading preventable causes included:
💔 Homicide: 143 deaths
🚗 Accidental injuries: 142 deaths
🧠 Suicide: 102 deaths
💊 Drug overdoses: 93 deaths
Together, these causes accounted for 480 deaths.
The study, published in JAMA Pediatrics, highlights something rarely discussed: while maternal deaths receive dedicated public health attention, fathers who die during the years following a child’s birth are not systematically tracked in the same way.
Researchers also found that fatherhood was associated with lower overall mortality rates among men in Georgia. However, they don’t yet know why, and this association doesn’t prove that becoming a father directly reduces the risk of death.
THE BIGGER MESSAGE?
Becoming a parent is a major life transition, but fathers’ safety, mental health, and social circumstances deserve far more attention.
Behind every statistic is a family, a partner, and a child who may grow up without their father.
Researchers hope other states will investigate these deaths so that preventable tragedies can be identified and addressed.
Should the U.S. establish a national system to track and help prevent deaths among fathers?

Scientists are testing an experimental injection called CBL-514 that appears to selectively destroy fat cells rather than simply making you eat less.
In early human trials, researchers used MRI scans to measure visceral fat — the deeper fat stored around internal organs and associated with metabolic problems such as insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
After treatment, participants receiving CBL-514 had an average 12% reduction in visceral fat just four weeks after their final treatment, while the placebo group actually gained about 5.7%. At later follow-up, the treatment group still had about 10.5% less visceral fat than when they started.
The drug works in a very different way from popular GLP-1 medications. Instead of primarily suppressing appetite, CBL-514 is designed to trigger apoptosis — essentially programmed cell death — specifically in fat cells at the injection site.

What if high blood pressure isn’t only about your heart, kidneys, salt, or blood vessels?
Scientists have identified a brain region called the lateral parafacial region (pFL) that may play an unexpected role in hypertension.
The region is normally involved in controlling forceful breathing — like coughing, laughing and exercising. But experiments in rats found that when these neurons became overactive, they could activate the body’s “fight-or-flight” nervous system, causing blood vessels to constrict and blood pressure to rise.
And here’s the really interesting part:
When researchers switched off this brain region in hypertensive rats, their blood pressure dropped back toward normal levels.
The discovery could also help explain the well-known connection between sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Low oxygen and elevated CO₂ during sleep apnea can activate pathways connected to this system.
Researchers are now investigating whether they could target the carotid bodies, tiny oxygen-sensing structures in the neck, to indirectly calm this brain circuit — potentially avoiding drugs that have to enter the brain.
