We’re so excited to welcome Darcy Nellis and Maya Normandi for an Artist Talk on Wednesday at 12PM EST. Together they founded The Artist Program, a seasonal initiative for independent artists who are looking to clarify their brand identity and showcase their work.  Their Artist Talk will be focused on refining your artistic brand, website, and portfolio. They will also share how to intentionally present your work and build a website that reflects who you are as an artist.  We can’t wait to see you on Wednesday! by @dn_a.studio
GABBIE BURSETH, Artist Feature For Gabbie’s art direction & brand identity, we developed a visual language with touches of whimsy and nostalgia — evoking a retro feel while remaining distinctly chic. A gem-named color palette, playful sensory details, and a cheeky sense of humor balance the over-the-top with refined, intentional statements that honor the chaos and personality of a wedding day. During the process, we were drawn to a series of images from Gabbie’s portfolio featuring her collection of all the tiny, ridiculous, incredible handbags she has photographed on wedding days. With this in mind, we wanted the brand to feel bold and iconic like a refined designer name brand — instantly recognizable, while unafraid to embrace the kitschy details. The look of the submark was inspired by the clasp on a handbag and branded statement pieces. Overall, the identity was formed around noticing intentionally design-forward details that communicate individual personality, the same way Gabbie approaches her work for each unique wedding. by @dn_a.studio
One of this year’s greatest creative treats has been collaborating with other artists. Thank you to @priscillafosterhandmade for this exquisite box and to @artist___program for refining my brand and bringing the most beautiful touch of whimsy into the print world. Here’s what I shared with Priscilla in our design process: I’m always chasing the feeling of being upstairs during your parents’ dinner party—it’s after bath time, you’re in clean, even luxurious, pajamas, watching a movie, and giggling with the friend who is sleeping over. The whole weekend is ahead of you, and everyone you love is having fun. I love film photography in large part because it is a real, physical creation. Delivering matted prints to my couples has changed everything about my edit process this year, and I’m so happy the prints can now arrive in a box worthy of their treasure. Thank you also to my wonderful clients who consistently trust me and my collaborators to witness everything their celebrations hold. I can’t wait to see what else makes it into the box! by @dn_a.studio
AYLA CLAYPOOL, Artist Feature For Ayla’s brand, Ayla Creates Anywhere, we developed a visual language that feels immersive, theatrical, and female-forward, capturing the archetypal, playful energy at the heart of her practice. The typography is a balance of classic and whimsical, to feel as if exploring a secret garden made up of letters and floral illustrations with use of a designer typeface by @celinehurka. This experience allows viewers feel nostalgic, as though entering into a world of folklore in a storybook. The primary submark is a customized “A” with a leaf illustration to coincide with her brand signature green color, inspired by Ayla’s noticing of the tone of leaves when the sun is casting light through them. This color is currently used as her background color of her main homepage on her website. The alternate brandmark is inspired by historical archetypes in its style and was created by using an actual image of Ayla as Bertha Mason from “Where Women Begin To Feel”, a photo series where Ayla explores women characters in classical literature and seeks to give them more voice and agency while honoring their original texts. The honesty of this mark shows Ayla in her element while honoring powerful women in history. Visit aylacreatesanywhere.org by @dn_a.studio

ARTIST FEATURE, Mallory Carlson The brand identity for Mallory was formed to provide a sense of both softness and boldness, with a modern feel and intentional personality. We customized the brandmark by merging her initials with fluidity to represent how she approaches her own artistry, with an adaptable, creative presence in the moment. Ultimately, we created a highly identifiable presence through connectivity in letterforms and bold type choices, balanced with a simple sans typeface to represent Mallory’s essence and photographic work — both confident and soft, relaxed and sociable. by @dn_a.studio
SARAH BENNETT, Artist Feature ( 3/3 ) In designing a new brand identity for @sarah.j.bennett , we imagined a walk through the forest, foraging and collecting pieces along the way, just as Sarah is known to do in her own life. We chose the word “kept” to define the brand as something tangible, held in hand, and saved for years to come, much like the photographs she gives to the people she captures. We drew inspiration from small things found in nature like wildflowers, leaves, and raw materials, with the aim of evoking a long walk through the forest, alongside the water, or past a tree carved with the initials of people in love. Through imperfect edges in the typography to a submark with a single flowing line, alluding to a path or river, we kept things simple and let the smallest details breathe. by @dn_a.studio
WALLS TRIMBLE, Artist Feature ( 3/3 ) In our most recent Artist Interview, photographer and Super 8 filmmaker, Walls Trimble, shares about her experience in the Artist Program and describes how in the process of refining her portfolio, she discovered a definite thread throughout her work that carried us into forming a brand identity and website that feels true to who she inherently is as an artist. “We discovered that nearly everything I was drawn to was already on my desk: paper doll bookmarks, framed butterflies, a magnifying glass. The colors I loved were also already in my work, despite my not noticing. A real study in, ‘What you need is already inside you.’” — @trimblenator Read full Artist Interview on our Substack (link in bio) by @dn_a.studio

ANASTASSIA TRETIAKOVA, Artist Feature ( 3/3 ) In our most recent Artist Interview, visual artist Anastassia Tretiakova discusses her practice of solidifying memories into archival material, and shares how the Artist Program helped her conceptualize a digital space that reflects her evolving inner world. “My work is a direct reflection of my experiences - quite literally using photography to preserve my memories into something more tangible, but also a way for me to explore complex emotional states of being - oftentimes heavier emotions like disappointment and a sense of rootlessness in the world and ones that I don’t have the a verbal capacity to describe. I think I am always striving for beauty and transcendence which might make my work nostalgic, impressionistic - it stems from a sort of desire to preserve the ephemeral while also learning how to let it go.” — @anastassiatretiakova Read full Artist Interview on our Substack (link in bio) by @dn_a.studio
CHRISTIAN BAÑEZ, Artist Feature ( 3/3 ) In our most recent Artist Interview, visual artist and writer Christian Bañez opens up about his practice as an act of ongoing vulnerability, and shares what went into building a portfolio website that feels true to himself. “A lot of my early work dissected my experiences as a formerly undocumented immigrant living in rural Missouri, and that work taught me so many lessons on vulnerability, messaging, and being unwavering as an artist. Right now, I’m working on a series of drawings and watercolor paintings that collage all the visual references I’ve studied that are foundational to what I see and enjoy (genre art, portraiture, Greek & Roman antiquity, bit-style drawings, and anime) so be on the look out for the developments ♡ I think my previous portfolio/website served more as a vessel for imagery to be in and didn’t leave much of an impression for people seeing my work for the first time. I think now with the Artist Program, the website showcases the personality behind the artwork and also stands out as its own creative thing. If redesigning your portfolio, and having fruitful discussions regarding how your presenting your work online has been on your mind definitely go into the Artist Program!” — @christianbanez_ Read full Artist Interview on our Substack (link in bio) by @dn_a.studio
