This past Saturday afternoon was a mighty beautiful moment. Michael Zelner captured these lovely photographs. Thanks to Oakland Reductionist Orchestra (This iteration: Matt Ingalls, Danishta Rivero, Chris Cooper, Diane Grubbe, Kyle Bruckmann, Isabelle Waldner Kalb, John Ingle, Phillip Gelb) and to everyone who came out to the redwoods of Joaquin Miller park to listen. by @dnishhh

Voicehandler plays intuitive, incantatory music grounded in the most primitive and somatic instruments -- the voice and percussion -- juxtaposed with contemporary, disembodied electronics. The performance is loose and exploratory, at various times energetic and meditative. Rivero’s voice embraces noise, with the lines blurred between electronic processing and extended vocal techniques. Heule has a special interest in friction techniques, and embraces limited instrumentation - like a single drum and a single cymbal - as a commitment to exploring the depth of his instruments.

matt robidoux (they/he) is a San Francisco based composer, improviser, and educator interested in sound-gesture causality and the convergence of movement and sound as it relates to free improvisation and accessibility. Their primary instrument is the “corn synth” (Kinetically Operated Randomness Network), a modular system that interprets physical input from two “ears of corn” sculptures cast in aluminum.

Local support from Nummy and Lucky Bone.

August is upon us and we are bringing the heat with a special “three generations of Mills College” line up!  It’s another Wednesday night show, but hey, you don’t have school the next day, so come support these amazing artists who are traveling to Madison!
.
LULA ASPLUND is an experimental composer and Chicago-based sound artist. Her work invokes voice as object and atmosphere—dislocated, refracted, tactile. Using spectral play, vocal manipulation, and fragmented sound poetry, she enters the nonlinear logic of dream and memory. Asplund has a BFA from Mills College and has performed at Center for New Music and Audio Technologies, The Lab SF, CalArts, Elastic Arts, Bohemian National Cemetery, and Experimental Sound Studio.
.
KIM NUCCI (Chicago/Oakland) is a media artist, composer/performer, and technologist. They perform with electronics/saxophones/light and enjoy creating temporary environments for interaction. Nucci’s research explores the pedestrian cybernetic body, critically examining our relationship with technology/our instruments. Their performance practice is invested in ritualism and trance states in improvisation.

We situate ourselves in our physical and social environment through our music. Our improvisations are shaped by their setting and context.

It might be a Wednesday night show, but it’s the same tried and true Common Sage format:

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT—- our surprise guest headliner is the iconic duo @las_sucias duo of @sandemon__ and @dnishhh who are blessing our festival with a special headlining performance. Sandy is flying all the way from NY for the festival and we couldn’t be happier and more excited to welcome them and share this news with you.

Outsider Sounds and Visions Fest is a two day music festival in West Oakland March 27 and 28, 2026 celebrating the twenty year anniversary of @ratskinrecords happening at First Church Of The Buzzard in West Oakland as well as streaming online featuring over thirty five bands / performances. Presale ticket link in our bio.

We are beyond enthralled to bring on legendary duo @las_sucias, their music has meant so much to us over the years and this performance will not disappoint.
Raw, unfiltered, and impossible to pin down, Las Sucias carve out a sound that lives somewhere between noise, ritual, and rupture. Their performances aren’t just sets, they’re confrontations, transformations, and a reminder of why we build spaces like this in the first place.

Las Sucias is a duo formed by Danishta Rivero and Alexandra Buschman, mixing anti-patriarchal riotgrrrl lyrics, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, brujería noise and possessed vocals. Each performance is a ritual that combines all of the senses and elevates into a higher realm, inspiring the listener to dance, speak in tongues, laugh hysterically, and get possessed by the spirits awoken. taken in First Church Of The Buzzard by @dnishhh
