I’ve always had Rye as one of the 50 best courses in the world, but when I got back there today for the first time in ages, several members proudly reminded me that I listed it as THE best course to take your dog to play. This little guy was waiting by the locker room door when we arrived . . . I thought I had a great day, but his might have been better. by @doakgolf

I guess I could have stayed at Heathrow yesterday morning and waited for the rest of my group to arrive, but it seemed like a better idea to go sit on the porch at Woking and have breakfast in peace whilst watching the early members approach the 14th green. It was the start of a great day. Thanks to the club for having me back after thirty years away. by @doakgolf

It turned out to be Homecoming Day in Boonville, Indiana yesterday when I made a visit back to Quail Crossing GC for the first time in ~20 years. I had arranged to play with two old friends, Ted Sturges (second from left) and Ward Peyronin (second from right), but then Ted brought along our old Crooked Stick friend Joe Luigs, and my original client Mamie Wood came out to see us with her son Griffin, who grew up on the course and is now playing professionally. Griffin had five birdies, the rest of the field combined for one more 😂. I had a blast; I guess I should get back to my old courses more often 🤔. taken in Quail Crossing Golf Club by @doakgolf

Made my last construction visit to Punta Brava yesterday - the first was in November of 2022. Everything is now grassed except the par-4 ninth hole, which just got the green light from archaeology, so we had the whole crew there, starting to put in the irrigation along the cliff edge while we were finishing the fairway. The goal is to grass it before Christmas! I took tons of photos yesterday - the place is spectacular- but photos can’t really do justice to the scale of the mountain and the rocks offshore. You try to get it all in the frame and the golf hole looks TINY. So, no more photos here. Honestly, I don’t think you are ready for them.
And no more photos from me for a while. My anniversary present to my wife is to quit social media and be more present at home. I’ve still got more golf courses to build, and I’d rather build courses than hype them. I trust you’ll hear about them when they’re ready. Merry Christmas to all of you. by @doakgolf

What’s the best public course in Texas? The first 18 holes at Wild Springs Dunes has come a long way since I last saw it in July without a blade of grass being planted, to playing 18 holes the last two days with lead associate @bslawgolf, our client Michael Keiser, and his crew from @dream_golf_resorts. I probably shouldn’t be sharing so many photos, but here are the par-4 opener, the par-5 8th, and all four short holes (if you can call the 250-yard 10th playing down a ravine “short”). Preview play on the first eight holes opens in a couple of weeks. taken in Mount Enterprise, Texas by @doakgolf

Took the WHOLE family (plus a couple of friends) to watch the Tigers beat the Astros this afternoon - and to meet our newest member, Fox (just off my left shoulder), 7 weeks old. I think this is our first group photo ever! by @doakgolf

Long ago, when I took my son Michael along to NZ and Tasmania for the first time, we were waiting for a connection and he asked how many airports I’d visited. There was an airline magazine handy, so we took the route map and started there, and since then I’ve kept the list in a spreadsheet on my laptop.
This morning it’s Aalborg airport in the north of Denmark - #348 overall, but #1 alphabetically. 4:30 call time for a 6:15 flight, and the bars were just closing downtown! Denmark was a blast. by @doakgolf

I’ve been playing golf around the world for 54 years. Never made a hole in one.
This morning we came across the bridge to Sweden to play at Falsterbo, my first visit to Sweden, and it only took me two holes to make my first ace, a downwind 5-iron between two bunkers in front. 😮 The green sits down behind the bunkers just enough that we didn’t see it go in, and didn’t really even think twice about it until we got up there. Fortunately I had two good friends as witnesses: @manfescue and @cunningolf . Thanks to Chris for the winning photo. by @doakgolf

A few more photos of yesterday’s mystery course: Royal GC of Meknes in Morocco. Tees and greens jammed right up against the walls of the palace to squeeze every yard out of a small site. 100 members. Floodlights for night play in summer. And the best part: all of the small clubhouse facilities (locker rooms, pro shop, lounge) are built right into the palace walls! by @doakgolf

Here’s one of the best entrances to a golf club I’ve ever seen. Anyone know where? (We are not in Kansas anymore, Toto.) by @doakgolf
