Two-tone painted kitchens had their moment but as of 2026, they’re no longer what defines a truly elevated space.

Today, great kitchens are about depth, layering, and intentional contrast. Mixing materials and textures wood with stone, matte with polished, warm with cool creates interest that feels timeless, not trendy.

Design isn’t about splitting colors anymore.
It’s about composing materials.

✨ Think richer palettes.
✨ Thoughtful finishes.
✨ Kitchens that feel collected, not copied.

In luxury kitchen design, it’s not about showing off appliances , it’s about making them disappear. Panel-ready appliances allow the kitchen to read as one cohesive, architectural space rather than a collection of shiny boxes.

Why we always choose appliance panels in high-end kitchens:
• Seamless, uninterrupted cabinetry lines
• Elevated, custom, furniture-like feel
• Timeless look that won’t age with appliance trends
• The design stays in focus — not the hardware

Stainless steel has its place, but in truly refined kitchens, discretion is the ultimate luxury. When appliances blend in, the design speaks louder.

But is it though?

I’ve been seeing a lot of opinions lately that open-concept interiors and kitchens are slowly fading away.

Honestly? I’m not really seeing it.

From a kitchen designer’s perspective, I think open-concept spaces still have a lot to offer, especially when they’re designed thoughtfully. It’s not just about knocking down walls and creating one big room. It’s about how the kitchen connects to the dining and living spaces, how the sightlines work, how you move through the room, and how everything feels together.

A well-designed open kitchen can feel inviting, functional, and incredibly connected to the way people actually live.

Are we seeing more interest in defined spaces and a little more separation? Absolutely. But I don’t think that means open concept is disappearing.

When it’s designed right, I think it’s here to stay.

What do you think, are you ready to close the door on open-concept kitchens, or are you still loving the open layout? taken in Old Westbury, New York by @docamiami

One of the questions my clients ask me all the time: handleless or handles?

Handleless kitchens definitely create a cleaner, more seamless look—but I still love incorporating handles where they’re practical, especially on panel-ready refrigerators and tall pantry doors.

One of the most-asked questions we get as kitchen designers: “How big should my kitchen island be?”

The answer? It depends on the room.

A kitchen island should feel generous and substantial, but bigger isn’t always better. The right size needs to work with the overall layout, maintain comfortable walkways, allow cabinets and appliances to open properly, and keep the kitchen functional.

The goal is to make the island as large as the space comfortably allows, without making the kitchen feel crowded.

A well-designed island shouldn’t just fill the room. It should feel like it was always meant to be there. taken in Old Westbury, New York by @docamiami

Rich wood cabinetry and dark stone surfaces create a sophisticated kitchen, balanced by clean lines, integrated appliances, and a sculptural central island.
