Prelude to a Dream
By Jamie Wehr
Inspired by the founder of the Gateways Brass Collective, Dr. Isrea Bulter, Prelude to a Dream is a compelling work for brass nonet and percussion intended for college level performers and advanced ensembles. The piece showcases rich brass sonorities, expressive ensemble writing, and understated rhythmic drive. Ideal as a concert opener or ceremonial work, it offers developing musicians the opportunity to engage audiences with music that is both contemporary and warmly inviting.

From Atlanta to Winston-Salem. 🙌🏾

Last month, the Gateways Brass Collective was on the ground at the HBCU National Band and Orchestra Directors’ Consortium Convention—leading masterclasses, connecting with educators, and pouring into the next generation of musicians.

At Gateways, artistry doesn’t live onstage alone—it lives in mentorship, in community, and in the spaces where young musicians are reminded of what’s possible.

That same tradition continues at the 2026 Spring Festival in Winston-Salem.

Join us for Brass Day with the Young Musicians Institute—an immersive, hands-on experience where developing brass and horn players will learn directly from the world-class artists and educators of the Gateways Brass Collective.

If you know a young brass player, let them know: this is where they need to be.

What an incredible evening at the 2nd Annual Mariachi Extravaganza — Las Vegas at the UNLV Performing Arts Center!

This special event brought together national award-winning mariachi ensembles, outstanding vocalists, and competition winners from across the country for a celebration of music, culture, and tradition.

We were honored to have Dean Nancy J. Uscher from the UNLV College of Fine Arts, Dr. Isrea Butler @docibutler, Director of the UNLV School of Music, and Professor Stephen Blanco @sblanco1418 , Director of the UNLV Mariachi revolucion @unlvmariachi, in support of our students and this special event.

Congratulations to all performers and competition participants for an unforgettable event, and thank you to everyone who joined us for this wonderful celebration of mariachi music at UNLV.

Gateways shines at Disney World! 🎺✨

Last week, the Gateways Brass Collective returned to the most magical place on earth — shining bright as clinicians and featured performers in the 2025 Thanksgiving Parade of Bands!

As the only all-Black professional brass quintet in the country, it was a powerful opportunity to inspire the next generation of musicians. Ayyyye! 🙌🏾🔥

Relive it here — volume all the way up. 🔊🔥
