"Troubles of The World" For Solo Clarinet and Wind Symphony Grade 4 Written By William A.R. May Performed by the Indiana Wind Symphony (Jay Gephart, Conducting), and featuring internationally acclaimed “Queen of the Clarinet,” Dr. Doreen J. Ketchens, this clip captures a vital new structural framework: a fully improvisational Hammond B3 Organ opening solo variation on the theme, executed by Isaac Vining. Blending strict notation with spontaneous gesture, this Grade 4 concert band work draws directly from the historical lineages of Mahalia Jackson and the traditional choral settings directed by my mom, Dr. Stephanie May, across Dekalb County schools. This score is structured as a living document designed for musicians across disciplines to create something unified and authentic within their own idioms. Following an initial launch by T.C. Spivey Hall, @jseda1919, & the @swd_truelife Wind Symphony, for the 2025 @american_bandmasters_official International Convention, this open commissioning consortium is actively welcoming band directors, conductors, and arts administrators who want to anchor their programs to this music. Head to the link in my bio to check out more info about the work, look through perusal materials, and secure your spot on the permanent score registry. 🔗 Link in Bio: https://www.williammaymusic.com/seda-band-commission

Prelude to a Dream By Jamie Wehr Inspired by the founder of the Gateways Brass Collective, Dr. Isrea Bulter, Prelude to a Dream is a compelling work for brass nonet and percussion intended for college level performers and advanced ensembles. The piece showcases rich brass sonorities, expressive ensemble writing, and understated rhythmic drive. Ideal as a concert opener or ceremonial work, it offers developing musicians the opportunity to engage audiences with music that is both contemporary and warmly inviting. WM #479…$19.00 🎉

Always great to see the Basie family again. They played their 🍑’s off! I even sat in on a couple of tunes. Until next time.

GATEWAYS TOOK TIMES SQUARE. 💫 The Gateways Brass Collective brought the full force of Gateways to the heart of New York City — and Times Square felt every note! From the first downbeat, the ensemble had the crowd locked in, delivering one of the most phenomenal performances of our season. We’re grateful to our friends at @carnegiehall and @tsqlive for making this moment possible, and to @eastman.school’s @ob3isme for sitting in with the ensemble. Here’s a taste of GBC’s take on Chick Corea’s Spain. #GatewaysMusicFestival #GatewaysBrassCollective #CarnegieHall #TimesSquare #BlackMusicMonth
