Six years after the very first B.O.B., this one brought us full circle back to New York City, where it all began.

Who was there: Bhangra Empire, Virse: Our Tradition, BU Fatakada, RU Raga, UMD EntouRAAS, Broad Street Baadshaz, Georgia Tech Qurbani, and UC Berkeley Azaad.

On the mic: poet-performers BROWNSTAR (Pushkar “North Star” Sharma and Sathya “South Star” Sridharan) hosted the show, with special acts from Wanted Ashiqz and RU Dhol Effect (RUDE) bringing live dhol into the mix.

The judges: Smita Miki Patel and Amish Jani for Raas-Garba, Amit Shah and Kajal Desai for Bollywood/Fusion, Shalabh Kumar and Jasmine Singh for Bhangra, and Reshma Gajjar (fresh off Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” tour and A.R. Rahman’s Jai Ho tour) as Overall Judge.

UC Berkeley Azaad took Bollywood/Fusion AND the overall win, Bhangra Empire took Bhangra, and UMD EntouRAAS took Raas-Garba 🏆

#bestofthebest movie officially has us on the nostalgia train 🥲

here's our opening piece (Drona) from our winning performance at @bestofthebestdancecomp in NYC 2011 with our team @ucbazaad 💙💛

the scene is set with Naina, the powerful, strong-minded lead @amluuu >> some of our highlights when creating this choreo/concept… the opening partner stunt 🙏🏽, layers on layers in formations, and of course a CLASSIC ending Berkeley team body roll 🤩

in honor of #BestOfTheBest dropping on @netflix today… we’re dropping our very own @bestofthebestdancecomp 2011 winning routine from NYC, along with a few other @ucbazaad 1 & 2 gemssss 🥹✨

it’s pretty surreal to see so much of what made our dance team years so special — the garage practices, the late nights, the competitions, the friendships, the heartbreaks, the wins, and the memories — poured into a film that’s going to reach audiences around the world.

we were just college kids dancing our hearts out, building something from the ground up, and finding our people along the way. 💛

so proud of what @ucbazaad became, and even prouder that this South Asian American college dance team experience is being celebrated on a much bigger stage.

and honestly… if it weren't for this team, our continued love for dance and @doctorswhodance probably wouldnt exist 🥹

so much love to the entire circuit, everyone who made those years unforgettable, and to all the dancers who continue to carry this culture forward. ✨
