In 2012, the BOB family grew. 💫

When we launched BOB Juniors, we had one clear goal: pass the torch to the next generation of dancers.

We wanted to build a bridge—taking the energy, passion, and high-caliber stage experience of Best of the Best and opening those doors to high school dancers who were ready to shine. Watching youth teams bring that same fire, dedication, and heart to the stage proved that the future of dance was in good hands.

To everyone who was part of that launch year and every Junior dancer who has graced our stage since—thank you for keeping the legacy alive!

Six years after the very first B.O.B., this one brought us full circle back to New York City, where it all began.

Who was there: Bhangra Empire, Virse: Our Tradition, BU Fatakada, RU Raga, UMD EntouRAAS, Broad Street Baadshaz, Georgia Tech Qurbani, and UC Berkeley Azaad.

On the mic: poet-performers BROWNSTAR (Pushkar “North Star” Sharma and Sathya “South Star” Sridharan) hosted the show, with special acts from Wanted Ashiqz and RU Dhol Effect (RUDE) bringing live dhol into the mix.

The judges: Smita Miki Patel and Amish Jani for Raas-Garba, Amit Shah and Kajal Desai for Bollywood/Fusion, Shalabh Kumar and Jasmine Singh for Bhangra, and Reshma Gajjar (fresh off Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” tour and A.R. Rahman’s Jai Ho tour) as Overall Judge.

UC Berkeley Azaad took Bollywood/Fusion AND the overall win, Bhangra Empire took Bhangra, and UMD EntouRAAS took Raas-Garba 🏆

Doctors Who Dance: Dr. Amlu Natesan Competes for Top Spot in Ciara’s ‘Dance Icon’

Dr. Amlu Natesan is proving that you don’t have to choose between passion and profession. Born in Chennai and raised in California, Amlu has seamlessly balanced a career in medicine with her lifelong love for dance. From learning Bharatanatyam at the age of five to mastering Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Bollywood, she even founded and captained the UC Berkeley college dance team. In 2010, she became the first choreographer in the U.S. Hindi Film dance circuit to bring Kollywood to the stage—a testament to her dedication to both her Tamil roots and the art of movement.

Now, Amlu is taking on a new challenge: competing in Ciara’s ‘Dance Icon’ competition, where the winner earns a spot in the singer’s next hip-hop music video. Out of thousands of competitors, Amlu has advanced to the semi-finals, placing her in the top 1% of contestants. As the only Tamil American dancer still in the contest, she hopes to inspire others by proving that pursuing both medicine and dance is possible.
____

For Amlu, winning Dance Icon isn’t just about dancing on a big stage—it’s about representation, breaking stereotypes, and celebrating the beauty of a dual career in medicine and the arts.

Support her journey by voting daily until March 27th at danceicon.org/2025/amlu-natesan!

Performed a dance on the theme of Durga Puja, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of India’s states with our multitalented group of doctors at Fusion 2024, an international conference on infertility which was a joint conference of ISAR, IFS and ESHRE. It was an incredible experience to blend our professional dedication with artistic expression.🫶🫶🫶
Thank you to the entire team of fusion 2024 and Dr Rishma Pai ma'am for this oppurtunity! 🥰🥰

🤨 Have you ever been told not to dance?

✨ Our DFD Dance Specialist, Dr. J Simms PT, DPT! With her expertise, she shares a powerful message: Not all injuries spell the end of a dancer’s career.

“Nothing boils my blood more than hearing a dancer should stop dancing because their sport is ‘bad for their body’.” 🤯

👉 To any physicians who have told dancers to stop dancing, have you ever told a baseball, hockey or football player to stop playing their sport? Probably not.

👉 Find a rehabilitation professional that treats dancers.
