It's been a month since Nuisance Bear received the U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at Sundance. We've had a chance to reflect on our time in the mountains which felt like an open-eyed dream.

The path to tell this story was long, winding, and at times felt impassable. But if you persevere, if you really believe in something strongly enough, you just keep at it until it happens.

Inuit elder and narrator of this film Mike Tunalaaq Gibbons used to tell us in moments of doubt — we must stand up for what we believe in. We must keep going. No matter how difficult it gets. taken in Sundance Film Festival by @documist

So proud of our team for THREE primetime Emmy nominations today! I'm especially proud of the exceptional merit which honors both the craft of the filmmaking and the impact of the work itself. In other highlights, Tangãi Uru-eu-wau-wau (@tangai_uru_eu_) was nominated for cinematography and yours truly found a directing nomination. What a wonderful piece of news! Congratulations to everybody on this extraordinarily talented list. taken in Amazônia by @documist

We couldn’t be more thrilled to share MUBI has acquired worldwide rights for Nuisance Bear. It’s the perfect home for a film that one critic described as ‘a David Attenborough special on acid.’

Coming to theatres and streaming soon! 🎉

This polar bear is smart enough to beat a bear trap, but is he wise enough to survive the world of humans? 🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️

As polar bears’ hunting ground shrinks, the bears begin wandering into town more frequently–endangering both themselves and neighboring humans. NUISANCE BEAR is a gorgeous, poetic, and immersive meditation on the impacts of painful history, climate change, ursine incursions, and human interventions.

Photos from last month’s sold out screening of NUISANCE BEAR at DCEFF. Another extremely memorable night of film and conversation.

“Gabby and I had a terrific time screening NUISANCE BEAR at DCEFF. The audience was so engaged and moderator Dana Hedgpeth really elevated the conversation. It was truly one of the best screenings we’ve had and receiving the William W. Warner Voice of Nature Award was the cherry on top. Thank you to DCEFF and the Warner Family for such a memorable experience.” - Jack Weisman

We’re very excited to announce the first award winner of our 2026 Festival - NUISANCE BEAR (directed by Gabriela Osio Vanden & Jack Weisman) is this year’s William W. Warner Voice of Nature Award Winner. Tickets for this DC Premiere go on sale next Tuesday.

Winner of Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize for Documentary, the new film from @a24 follows a polar bear that is forced to navigate a human world of tourists, wildlife officers, and hunters as its ancient migration collides with modern life. When a sacred predator is branded a nuisance, it becomes unclear who truly belongs in this shared landscape.

Established in memory of Pulitzer Prize winning author William Warner by the Warner/Kaempfer family, the Warner Award recognizes a film that reflects a spirit of reverence for the natural world. by @documist
