Join us on Kingman and Heritage Islands for our annual Friends and Family Day! Free and welcome to all ages!

🗓️ Saturday, October 17
⏰ 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

RSVP in bio to join this free celebration of nature, art, and community in DC's first state conservation area.

This is an event for all ages and a celebration of everything the Islands have to offer as a unique space in the District dedicated to conservation, environmental education, and recreation.
Activities will include paddling, motorized boat tours, guided nature walks, music, nature-forward and sustainable arts and crafts, and more.

Advance registration is encouraged but not required. #kingmansisland taken in Kingman and Heritage Islands by @doee_dc

What if Netflix did a documentary about DOEE? 👀

We know what you’re thinking… “DOEE just does environmental stuff, right?”

Well… our investigation uncovered a little more than that. 🔎

From monitoring the air we breathe to helping families prevent lead exposure, supporting electric vehicles, transforming neighborhoods through RiverSmart, and keeping batteries out of landfills...our team is working behind the scenes every day to help make the District healthier, cleaner and more sustainable.

Join Urban Adventure Squad and our community partners for Kingman Island Friends and Family Day on Saturday, October 17!

Stop by the Urban Adventure Squad table for a hands-on crafting activity where we’re making our very own critters out of clay! Learn about Keystone Species and Species of Greater Conservation Need, and make a memento to take home from your island adventure.

There’s plenty more to explore, too! Bring some clothes to participate in the all-ages clothing swap or create your own sustainable island merch with block printing. Don't forget to check out activities celebrating DC’s waterways, wildlife, and green spaces.

It’s the last week to share your thoughts on the Pinehurst Branch project — don’t miss your chance. Your voice matters. Let’s work together to protect Pinehurst Branch and Rock Creek Park: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/pinehurstbranch

If you haven’t commented yet, now is the time.

Pinehurst Branch is changing fast. Stormwater is carving the stream deeper, breaking apart the banks, and sending large amounts of mud downstream into Rock Creek, which hurts water quality and wildlife. Some big trees have already fallen over, and erosion has exposed sewer pipes and is threatening nearby trails and roads.

NPS and DOEE are exploring ways to fix these problems, but your feedback is key. We’re still in the early planning stage — your input can help shape what happens next. by @doee_dc

You’re invited to the Oxon Run Community Open House - an opportunity to learn more about the future of Oxon Run Park and, most importantly, share your voice!

Come see what’s planned, share what’s important to you, ask questions, and meet the project team.

At the conclusion of the Community Open House, DPR will provide a guided tour of the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) and the newly expanded SETLC site.

There’s still time to share your thoughts about Pinehurst Branch: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/pinehurstbranch

Every time it rains, fast stormwater rushes into Pinehurst Branch and cuts into the stream banks, digs the stream deeper, and sends mud and dirt downstream into Rock Creek. This hurts fish and wildlife, makes the stream unstable, and has even exposed sewer pipes and put nearby trails and roads at risk.

NPS and DOEE are working together on a study to explore ways to help the stream heal, protect nearby infrastructure, and improve wetlands and habitat. But to do this right, we need public input.

Your ideas help us:

• shape the alternatives we study
• guide restoration planning
• make sure we protect the park for future generations by @doee_dc
