POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hi everyone! I started this account as MAGICAL_BINDINGS because I loved the magic of books and the idea of beautiful, aesthetic pages. But I'm realizing my page isn’t just about pretty spines and aesthetics anymore, it’s about well-loved stories, messy emotions, dog hair in the pages, coffee stains, and life evolving.

@dog.eared.disaster just feels more like me. More real. More worn-in. Same all over the place reader. Just a name that fits better. 🖤

Thanks to all of you for hanging in there with me.

Hey everyone! I realized the other day that I've never done an actual Meet the Bookstagrammer post before. So here are random things about me. Btw, I'm Shelly.

FORMERLY: @magical_bindings

✔️ I have 2 sons & 2 grandsons.
✔️ My blood type is cheese.
✔️ I'm a dog person & have 2 fur kids.
✔️ My favorite football teams are the Saints & the Cardinals.
✔️ I love playing video games.
✔️ One of my favorite words is discombobulated. Go ahead, say it.
✔️ Favorite types of music are hard rock & metal but you'll find me listening to almost anything.
✔️ Aside from reading, I also love crafting.
✔️ Pineapple & ham totally belong on pizza. Don't come at me. Lol.
✔️ I'm a foodie & beer girl.
✔️ My favorite types of food are Mexican, Italian & Cajun.
✔️ My favorite tropes are enemies to lovers & forced proximity. Least favorite is miscommunication.

QOTD: Do we have anything in common? Tell me a fun fact about yourself!

All the pics are my husband & myself a couple years ago, the first 2 in New Orleans.

A little Halloween book magic from LaToya @readingbythebayou

Thank you so much for sending me Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier and A Stage Set For Villains by Shannon J Spann for the Halloween book exchange! You understood the assignment, and I can't wait to dive into these!

Two more books for the TBR, and I'm certainly not complaining!

QOTD: If you could spend Halloween inside any book, which one are you choosing? Are your surviving the night or are you part of the plot? Any weekend plans?

I was thinking about how long I'd actually survive in a horror novel, and honestly? My curiosity would probably be my downfall.

Haunted house? Sign me up.

Creepy hotel? Reservation booked, got my bags packed.

Abandoned building? Let's explore!

Mysterious noises in the basement? Okay, let's not be fucking stupid.

QOTD: What horror trope would get YOU killed first? These are some of me favorite haunted reads. Do you have any favorites?

Well, it’s Thursday. So, naturally it seems like the perfect time to tell you what I’m reading for What I’m Reading Wednesday.

📖 Daggermouth - I'm currently on about page 300 and wow!! I want a certain character to be unalived SO bad!

🎧 The Gate of the Feral Gods - I'm having a bit of a hard time getting into this one for some reason.

Better late than never. Probably.

QOTD: What’s currently on your reading list? Do you read more than one book at a time? What's for dinner tonight?

It’s raining today, and honestly, this is exactly the kind of weather that makes me want to read something creepy.

So, I paired the gloomy weather with two gloomy book covers.

The Invited by Jennifer McMahon

A couple builds their dream home on land with a dark and disturbing history. The kind of history that might make most people say, “Maybe we should build somewhere else?”

But then again, some of us are apparently drawn to that shit.

The Carrow Haunt by Darcy Coates

A notoriously haunted mansion. Three nights. A woman determined to find out if the stories are true.

Basically, my kind of vacation accommodation.

Rainy weather, haunted houses, and a good book is pretty much my ideal combination.

And yes, if someone actually offered me a weekend at either of these places, I’d probably want to go see for myself. 😂

QOTD: Would you stay the night in a house that was known to be haunted, or would you nope the hell out?
What's your favorite genre or book to read on a gloomy, rainy day? Have you read either of these books?

So apparently, we're matching our books to our outfits again. Everyone else is over there looking cute and coordinated, and I'm over here in a teal and black harem jumpsuit with fluffy blue slippers looking like I lost a bet.

But hey, this is my at home look and while it may not be cute, flattering, or remotely appropriate to go out in public in, it is comfortable as all hell.

So, I decided to see if I could match my questionable fashion choices to my books.

The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James
A little creepy. A little mysterious. Much like whatever the hell is going on with this outfit.

The Toll by Neal Shusterman
The price I pay for choosing comfort over dignity.

The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
"I'm only wearing this around the house."

The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne
Pretty sure at least one god is pissed about this.

And honestly, if I'm going to spend the day reading on the couch, eating snacks and avoiding anything that resembles responsibility, I might as well be comfortable while doing it.

So, forget cute bookish outfits.

Welcome to Bookstagram: Ugly Outfit Edition!

QOTD: Have you read any of these books? What ugly outfit do you wear at home? I know you have one.

Slide left to see a short synopsis of the books pictured, how this ensemble actually looks on and a behind the scenes pic.

I know I'm a little late to this trend but here is my rendition of it. Who knew my literary integrity had a price?
.
I know, I know. I did 6 books but oh well.
.
QOTD: What book had you saying “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK” out loud? How did you spend your holiday weekend? Did you get to relax?

As hubby is taking these pictures:

Hubby: “That’s a lot of books. Have you read all of these?”

Me: “Of course.”

Also me: has not read even 1 of these books.

I was doing so good last year, but now my TBR pile has gotten completely out of hand. At this point, I’m pretty sure it’s trying to become load bearing furniture.

QOTD: Do you see any good ones in here that I should prioritize? Are any of these on your list too? And how is your TBR stack or list going?

(Swipe left to see other behind the scenes pics and one of just the books themselves.)

Life update. Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve been on, and I’m sorry for that.

I don’t usually talk much about my personal life because we’re all just trying to get through life with our own stuff. But for those who don’t know, in March my husband and I stopped driving over the road and are home permanently now. We were tired of being away all the time, missing our family, and sleeping in our own bed.

I started taking some online courses and then, in July, we got the call that my brother-in-law was very sick. He ended up on life support, and we flew to Louisiana to be there when we took him off. He was only 55 when he passed. We stayed for a little while before coming home.

Now I’m trying to start my own business from home while also getting into a new diet and fitness routine. And let me tell you, giving up ice cream is a personal attack. 😂🍦

There have been a few other things too, but I’ll spare you the novel.

I felt like this picture captured a little bit of my daily chaos. I was shredding paperwork, took a break, and came back to find Luna running a paper-shredding crime scene with her face. 😂 The bag tipped over... or at least that’s what we’re going with.

Anyway, have you read this book? I really liked it. Not the best thriller I’ve ever read, but it kept my attention and I enjoyed it.

If you’re still reading, thanks for sticking around. ❤️

QOTD: How have you been this past month? What have I missed? Any good new releases? And most importantly... what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream? 😂
