Gail and George are ready for the Canicross trails. That “Give Us Space” tee isn’t just kit. It’s communication. It’s advocacy. It’s Gail saying, before a single word is exchanged with another trail user: my dog needs a little room, and that’s ok.

For dogs like George, the trail can be a place of real progress and that progress depends on the space to move through the world at their own pace, without the pressure of unexpected approaches from other dogs or people.

You don’t have to explain. You don’t have to apologise. The t-shirt says it for you.

Advocating for your dog’s needs is exactly what good ownership looks like.

Filming day Canicross chaos, in the best way!

Cameras, a crew on the sidelines and a lot of very interested dogs who suddenly forgot every cue they’d ever learned. Turns out “right” means something very different when there’s a cameraman crouched 3 ft away with a big lens pointed at you!

But they pulled it together, found their focus, and did us proud. Every single one of them.

A huge thank you to Richard @woodlandpetservices for bringing the crew down and making this whole thing happen. Days like this don’t come around often, and we loved every minute of it.

If this inspires you to start your own adventures with your dog, head to our bio where our courses, kit and DogFit trainers can be found 🐾🧡

“You don’t have to be a runner. You really don’t.”

Ginetta, our co-founder, mentioned this on the @animalfriendsinsurance podcast, and she speaks from experience. She never saw herself as a runner. Approaching her late forties, she laced up with her dog Coco and gave Canicross a go, just looking for a fun way to stay active.

6 months later, she crossed the line of her first 10k and has taken part in her first Ironman this year!

That’s the thing about Canicross. You don’t start as a runner. You start as a team. Walking first, building fitness together.

If you’ve been waiting until you feel “fit enough” or “runner enough”, this is your sign that you already are enough to begin.

If you want a safe, structured place to start, our Beginner to 5k course in the DogFit App was built for exactly you.

The 5 questions we hear most from new Canicrossers. Every one deserves a proper answer, so here they are.

The worries that hold beginners back are almost always the same and each one has a reassuring answer. We’ve put them all in one place so you can come back to them whenever you need to.

Save this guide for your first run, or send it to the friend who keeps saying “one day”.

A quick welfare note: your dog should be fully matured before they start running, which is usually around one year old, and it’s always worth checking with your vet if you’re unsure.

Which of these was your biggest worry when you started? Tell us below ⬇️ by @dogfituk

Say hello to Hannah.
Hannah personally answers all your harness consultations that come in to us via our personal harness consultation form.

If you’re not sure where to begin, that’s exactly why we created our Harness Quiz and personalised consultation form.

We offer an instant recommendation, using our quiz or a more personalised reply from our team. A few questions about your dog and how you run together, and Hannah will guide you towards the harness that we’d recommend for your team, not just the one that worked for someone else.

We can’t tell you too much just yet, but something exciting is coming…

Scroll any Canicross group and you’ll see the same question: “Which Canicross harness should I get?” And the answers are always generous, everyone shares what works for their dog.

The thing is, what works beautifully for a Vizsla might not suit a Staffie, a Collie or a rescue still finding their confidence. Harness fit is about your dog’s shape, how they move, and how they run.

If you’re not sure where to begin, that’s exactly why we created our Harness Quiz and personalised consultation form. Everything you need to start Canicross, in one kit.

Ginetta takes you through the DogFit Starter Kit piece by piece: the running harness that lets your dog move freely, the waist belt that keeps your hands free and your balance steady, and the bungee line that softens every pull for both of you.

Then Coco and Gail show you what it looks like when it all comes together on the trail.

Designed and tested by our team, with dog welfare at the heart of every choice.

There are more Canicross-friendly events on offer than ever, and we’ve been adding every new one we hear about to our events page. If you’ve been inspired watching friends and the people you follow take on their first race, this could be your season.

Everything is colour coded by region, so it’s easy to spot which event is closest to you. Whether you’re entering your first 5k or adding another to the calendar, there’s something for every stage.

Take a look via the link in our bio or comment EVENT ⬇️ and we can send you the link.

Tag the friend (and their dog) you want to sign up with you! They’ll get the hint.

Your dog’s been training you for this. 🐾

The sudden sprints. The unexpected hill sessions. The dash home at the first drop of rain 😂

I’m Lilla, a qualified DogFit trainer, and this is Toblerone. This weekend he came third in a half marathon in the Brecon Beacons 🥉 Apparently I did too, but he’s taking all the credit.

Running together is one of my favourite things, and it’s why I’m starting Dogrunner. I’d love to help you and your dog get out there together.

I’m now recruiting for my first Couch to 5K course. If you’re thinking “I couldn’t run 5K”, that’s exactly where we start. We’ll build up gradually over 8 weeks, with walking and short runs, learning how to run together along the way.

You bring your dog. I’ll bring the encouragement (and all the gear you need). Toblerone may offer unsolicited advice 🤎

Fancy joining us? Send me a message to find out more. And if you know someone who’d love this, please pass it on: we’re just getting started in Chelmsford area. by @dogfituk
