At last, here is Layla Stone’s redesign! Sorry this took so long, I had w*rk, and also was visiting family interstate, plus just general art block with my dolls, so it took me some time. But I’m finally finished with this one, and BOY was it a doozy!! Right from the start, Layla was my LEAST favourite of the original line up, which was surprising to me. I mean, she’s purple, holographic, and crystal themed. Those are like, some of my favourite things! But no matter what, her design just kept frustrating me. In fact, the main reason this doll took me so long was just because I had a rough time figuring out how to change her, because I wasn’t sure what it was about her that I wanted to change. And then, it finally hit me! Everyone else in the line has super detailed outfits, and meanwhile she’s just in a shapeless mini dress. (I think that all the budget went to her cool jacket, tbh). So, I turned her dress into a shorts and tank top combo, added tights, and then it all just fell into place from there. Frankly with her hair, I originally wanted to go shorter, but I was too much of a coward, lol.

Now it’s Rae’s turn!! Her doll was the only that frustrated me the most when the design first leaked, because she’s mean to be SUN themed, yet she’s bright pink??? Like I know that Mattel does this because pink dolls sell better, but she didn’t have a SINGLE trace of yellow or gold in her. For a SUN doll. Like at this rate, they could have just made her be sunset themed or something, at least then the pink would have made sense. So, I proceeded to remove the pink and purple from her palette, and replaced it with yellow, orange, gold, and a complimentary blue. I considered keeping some pink elements, but since I’m planning on adding Carina Song to the lineup at some point, I decided to keep her palette unique.

Claire De Luna is the only Moonspell doll that I WON’T be redesigning, so I thought I’d give her an unboxing video, so she still gets a video with the rest of the girls. Rae Lumina is next!!

I really LOVE the new moonspell magic range, I think the dolls and concept is just SO COOL. However, the moment I first saw images of Willow Thorn, I KNEW she needed a different hair colour. Not that I don’t like purple, quite the contrary, I love it, but purple is a colour that least occurs in nature, so it’s often used in art to convey something unnatural and mysterious. So it felt WEIRD to have a NATURE themed doll have purple as the main colour. It made her look more inorganic than it did plant themed. So, I pushed the purple back a bit, although still keeping it in her palette, and chose a complimentary red to her green. I like how it gives her a Poison Ivy vibe.

I make it a rule to only ever customise dolls that are used and not in the best condition, but I STILL have people in my comments telling me I’ve “ruined them” by customising it, lol. If you really think I’ve ruined a doll that you wanted for your collection, then you can purchase the mouldy glue seepage doll with bugs in her hair instead! 👍

Thought I’d give you you all a peek behind the curtain for how I do faces! Honestly I didn’t hate my first attempt, but it was a bit smudgy. I’m so happy now though! It’s good to do some face up practice.

She is for sale, DM for details! This doll took a while, solely because her hair took so long to arrive!! But overall I’m super happy with the end product. Jane Boolittle has one of the most gorgeous sculpts I’ve ever worked on, so this was a fun project. Hope you guys enjoy her!

What if this backgrounder character from the monster high webisodes got her own doll? This is my attempt to translate her into a doll! This doll is currently for sale, and is fully rerooted, repainted, and her outfit is completely hand sewn. There is a process video if you’d like to see how I made her!

Would you believe me if I said that this custom took me a day? I was in the zone, I swear. Essentially, I missed out on the Valentine and Spelldon drop, but I REALLY wanted a Spelldon to go with my SDCC Val. So, I decided to make one with the prototype head! I’m really pleased with how he turned out, I hope you guys like it too!!
