I love these photos because they highlight the juxtaposition between the battle and the spectator. Just as our society nowadays so easily spectates so many battles of different kinds, only to remain a viewer - a forever spectator in the battles of life… I fortunately had the great privilege to join this project led by Black Label Movement director Carl Flink ( @carltheflinker ) after being a viewer at their first showing. It was such a formative experience for me going from a viewer to a battler. It resonated with a call to action that felt in many ways symbolic to my own life. Forever grateful is an understatement when it comes to this opportunity.

“We Caught A Sharp Edge”

How do we carry conflict?

How does it live within each of us differently; personal, instinctive, yet deeply intertwined with one another? And where do those collisions of emotion lead us?

This piece held profound meaning for me. Jake asked each of us, before we ever began moving, how we personally experience conflict. From those conversations, our solos were carefully shaped to reflect the unique ways tension, vulnerability, resistance, and reconciliation exist within our individual personalities.

Performing this work felt both intimate and collective, as our human emotions were woven through each movement. Sharing the stage and dancing alongside dear friends made the experience all the more beautiful and unforgettable.

Thank you to @jake_nehrbass for bringing me onto the project. I appreciate you brother.

I was blessed and fortunate enough to perform in @jake_nehrbass original work “LOST CONTACT” at @blacklabelmovement_ ‘s Movers Make 2.0 back in July. It was tremendous to be surrounded by such talented and kind artists throughout this process. If you have the chance to catch any of them in upcoming works, you must do so!!

This is a bit late in the game, but I wanted some time to sit and reflect a bit before giving my thanks. So here it goes.
.
I want to give huge shoutout and thank you to everyone who took the time to come witness my new work, "Off the Beaten Path...A Solitary Act," at the CandyBox Dance Festival in April. And of course, thank you to all the friends and families who contacted me personally that they were unable to attend.
.
This work and opportunity truly meant a lot to me as it is a mile stone towards my growth and artistry as a dance choreographer and dance maker in this community. From each item, to each movement choice, and to each idea, were all memories that are held close in my heart. This piece signifies all of my gains and losses as a dancer that I have had throughout my years all into one. It's interesting that even though this piece focuses on the tensions of solitude, how one's journey can be lonely or alone and what it means to later cope with that. Post show, I am reminded that this piece focuses on something that once was very real in my life, but even now, I realized that I am still facing this challenge in my everyday reality. So whether you are alone in this journey or will feel this sense of loneliness, never forget to love yourself! You gotta push through, because the world needs to fucken see your art!
.
So again, I cannot thank enough to the ones who made the effort to come witness this moment with me. I would like to extend my appreciation to a few specific folks. Thank you to @mathew_janczewski from @arenadances for having me as this year's featured artist. Thank you to my amazing wife, Kayla, in supporting me through this long extensive journey and process. Thank you to my good friend and mentor, @carltheflinker, for guiding me through this choreographic process. And thank you to my friends @jackgvstudios and Bill for capturing all these beautiful moments to look back on.

With more projects to come I am happy to pause this work and move onto another one. See you at Mixtape 7-Return To Battle on June 21st & 22nd at the Luminary Arts in Minneapolis.
