angewandte festival '26

Graphic, Text: Barbara Knapp, Verena Müllner, João Luís Soares, Dominik Leitner

Proposal for the Angewandte Festival 2026 drawing on the principles of the Situationist International, a European artist group from the 1950s. They developed playful tactics to break up everyday routines in the city and stimulate new ways of experiencing space and social interactions. By blurring the line between play and life, our design takes a similar route and treats the city as a playground.

We prioritized producing the unexpected over the classical. Our approach is not colorful like previous years and intentionally irritating to arouse curiosity. The city acts as a symbol of diversity where different tonalities and voices are translated through the use of altering typefaces and typography. by @domdurbo

made this in january but forgotttt to tell you about it

the actual times ( www.news101.world )

on an intellectual note:

it's a study in narrative construction. by examining how a single headline can be dragged into distinct directions i set out to offer a more accessible view through which everybody can observe the mechanisms that govern contemporary information environments.
(the big bad media)

as we all know news houses do not simply report events, they construct meaning around them, they fabricate.
every article is the result of editorial decisions. these decisions make all the difference.

the actual times shows this by producing four distinct narratives from the same origin. one headline. four articles.
one version seeks to justify. one seeks to oppose. one attempts to remain clinical. and my favourite one deliberately abandons convention in favor of sensationalism.

the work does not propose a correct interpretation.

on a realistic note:

u can do mad shit with this.
handle with care. or don't.
