Following a period shaped by acclaimed film scoring work, including their Oscar- and BAFTA nominations for Everything Everywhere All at Onceand music for Marvel’s Thunderbolts, Son Lux return with a new collection of songs forged through spontaneous improvisation and deep collaboration. GILLA BAND - PUGNELLO

For more than a decade, Gilla Band have been redefining the possibilities of guitar music, forging a singular sound that draws from post-punk, noise-rock and electronic experimentation while remaining entirely their own. Across a trio of acclaimed albums, the Dublin quartet have built a reputation for constant reinvention, and their fourth album, ‘Pugnello’, marks another bold step into uncharted territory. In the years following 2022’s Most Normal, each member pursued creative projects beyond the band, from producing records and touring with other artists to painting and solo work. Those experiences fed into the making of Pugnello, which emerged from a lengthy period of exploration and collaboration. JULIA JACKLIN - THE GEM

Julia Jacklin returns with her fourth album, recorded in Melbourne with producer Robert Muinos and a close-knit circle of friends. Created over the course of a year in a studio above a beloved local pub, the songs emerged through collaboration, experimentation and a slower, more intuitive process than her previous records. Named after the venue that inspired it, ‘The Gem’ explores the tension between intimacy and independence, with Jacklin turning a thoughtful eye towards love, commitment and self-determination. Led by the jangling, upbeat first single ‘Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon)’, the album finds her embracing uncertainty and questioning long-held assumptions with curiosity rather than cynicism. Warm, candid and emotionally nuanced, The Gem is another compelling collection from one of contemporary songwriting’s most perceptive voices.

PROTOMARTYR - HOTEL USONA

On their seventh album, Protomartyr continue their unflinching examination of modern life, framing America as a crumbling hotel where each song occupies a room haunted by a different social or political anxiety. Recorded with producer Dave Fridmann (Nick Cave, MGMT, The Flaming Lips), the Detroit post-punk band confront themes including AI, deportation, nationalism, extremism, violence and parenthood, balancing personal reflection with broader social critique. Musically, Greg Ahee expands the band’s post-punk palette with touches of Middle Eastern music and 1950s exotica, while Fridmann’s expansive production and Jon Fridmann’s horn arrangements lend the songs a cinematic sense of scale. The result is ‘Hotel Usona’, a record that pairs dread with moments of strange beauty, finding Protomartyr at their most ambitious, adventurous and powerful.
