Things foraged this week. Ignore the hole to the left of the dahlia. I had another stone but it started to rain and I’m basically part cat so forgot to place it there and ran into the house 🤣🐈‍⬛🌸 by @donaldfeely

This week I made three new floral designs with dahlias picked from @nofishcreekfarm. These photos were taken in a variety of lighting setups.

Slides 1-8 are the first arrangement I made. I was going for something a little less symmetrical than what I’ve designed before. Flowers are supported by a flower frog placed in the bottom of the vessel with plumbers putty.

Slides 9-14 is my third design that I created after Christopher from @amaryllisinc saw my second design (slides 15-16) and suggested that I pare down the number of dahlias used and add some other natural elements, leaning into Japanese Ikebana-style simplicity. These elements were foraged from a local state park and the moss was taken from my front yard.

Thanks to @rickdavis5490 and Christopher for letting me pick from their collection again!

This week I was invited to @nofishcreekfarm to pick some dahlias to practice floral design with. The farm is absolutely gorgeous and the traveling up the driveway leading up to the house is like driving through an enchanted wonderland. Thanks to Christopher and Rick for the opportunity!

I learned a few things with this design: how to use chicken wire for stability (I had to start over once because I used too much initially); that my process would have been more effective if I worked with green filler first, then add the statement flowers at the end; corn stalk leaves are very brittle when completely dry; and that I should constantly rotate my vase/vessel as I’m designing. I’m pretty happy with the final design which incorporates some plant life foraged from a local park. These photos were taken in my studio in various lighting setup. I think I like the more dramatic warm/cool tones in slides 1, 5, 8, 10 and 19 the most. Excited for my next arrangement! by @donaldfeely

My outdoor color palette has arrived. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my shirt: it’s from @bonobos and a year old! If you can find one, you’ll love it. The knit has lots of give and the collar is perfect. by @donaldfeely
