BTS REEL: A Day of Love, Legacy, and the Spirit of the Headband.

Yesterday, the Rainier Beach Community Center wasn’t just a gym—it was the heart of a movement. Community members gathered for the “Thank You for the Love” Basketball Empowerment Camp to honor a man who gave his soul to this city: the legendary Donald “Slick” Watts.

The energy was electric as Seattle City Council President Joy Hollingsworth (@joyhollings) officially proclaimed March 21st as Donald “Slick” Watts Day. Reading the proclamation to his son, Donald Watts Jr., she reminded us all that Slick’s impact went far beyond being the first player in NBA history to lead the league in assists and steals in a single season. He was a mentor, a physical education teacher for over 40 years, and a beacon of hope for generations of Seattle youth.

This day was made possible by the powerful collaboration between Fathers and Sons Together (FAST) (@fathersandsonstogether) and the Watts Foundation (@thewattsfoundation). Seeing community members, young and old, alongside legends like Shawn Kemp, embodied the very essence of community. The work FAST is doing to bridge gaps and create a “Beautiful Safe Place” in the Rainier Valley is a direct extension of the love Slick poured into us for over five decades.

As Donald Watts Jr. (@donaldwatts24) shared, this is about more than basketball—it’s about the healing power of showing up for one another. Slick always said, “It’s all about the love,” and yesterday, Seattle loved him back.

Converge Media is just getting started capturing the impact of this incredible day. Stay tuned for the full story coming out soon… and this is why #BlackMediaMatters

If your player wants to play college basketball, talent alone isn’t enough.

Parents need to understand the path. Players need to understand the work.

That’s why I created the College Prospect Parent + Player Workshop—to help families understand what it actually takes to position a player for the next level.

I’ve lived this journey as a player, coach, trainer, and parent. Now I’m sharing what I’ve learned with the next generation of families.

Each workshop is limited to 16 families.

Ball handling is more than dribbling.

It’s vision. Speed. Athleticism. Change of direction. And most importantly—comfort with the ball in your hands.

Today we isolated a couple of those elements and pushed them at max speed.

The goal: get more comfortable moving faster without losing control.

Can you see the improvement? by @donaldwatts24

I LOVE seeing players from our area go on to have great college basketball careers and experiences.

I HATE seeing how few are getting that opportunity.

Especially the players who are really close—but don’t have the development plan, information, or recruiting strategy to close the gap.

I’ve had a lot on my plate the last few years. A lot of that has lifted.

And I’m ready to get back to helping serious players maximize their potential as college prospects.

I’ve lived it. I’ve helped my own kids navigate it. And I’ve spent decades helping other players and families do it.

If you’re talented, under-recruited, willing to WORK and ready to follow a real game plan—I want to help.

SHARE this with a player or family who needs to hear it.

Let’s help more of our kids get to the next level. 🏀 by @donaldwatts24

Throwback Thursday.

We worked hard and made huge sacrifices for this opportunity and these moments.

I’ll never forget the feeling of being back in the NCAA Tournament—a place I had been before—this time with my son.

But I’ll also never forget the phone call after this game. He was already itching to get back to work, determined to put himself in position to lead a program back to this stage.

It hasn’t happened yet. College basketball has brought a lot of change and volatility to the journey.

But the mission is still the mission.

Keep working. Keep growing. Keep preparing for the opportunity to lead and get back to this stage.

Excited for what this upcoming year holds.

The mission continues. by @donaldwatts24

I went to Apple Podcasts and realized the 22 episodes I previously released had been deactivated. So tonight’s work is getting those episodes reactivated and preparing for the next season.

The last couple of years, I’ve gone through the college recruiting process more times—and from more angles—than I would have liked. But that experience has given me a lot more perspective on what players and parents need to know.

Recruiting. Development. Exposure. Rankings. AAU. The portal. Finding the right level. Communicating with coaches. Knowing when to be patient and when to make a move.

I want the 2026 season of the College Prospects Podcast to help families cut through the confusion and make better decisions with their time, money and talent.

So I want to hear from you:

What questions do you have about becoming a college basketball prospect or navigating the recruiting process?

Drop your question in the comments. I may answer it on the podcast.

Talent alone doesn’t make you a college prospect.

Too many talented players and committed families are investing serious time, money and energy—but missing opportunities because they don’t understand the process or they skip critical steps.

There’s a progression:

Develop the skill set.
Build the habits.
Produce in high school.
Understand your projected position + level.
Get in front of the right coaches.
Know how to communicate.
Navigate recruiting with a plan.

Each step should prepare you for the next.

That’s why I created our 1-Year College Prospect Development Program—to give serious players and families the clarity, development and strategy to make the most of their talent.

7th–12th grade.

Confidence isn’t the absence of struggle. It is the result of pushing through it.

This recovery continues to challenge me—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Balancing the work it takes to recover with the energy it takes to run a business is a challenge of its own.

But being out here on this track reminds me of something I tell our players:

Every challenge you overcome gives you confidence that you can overcome the next one.

One hurdle. One rep. One day at a time.

I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m committed to continuing to push, continuing to grow, and continuing to prove to myself what I’m capable of.

Whatever challenge is in front of you, don’t run from it. Work through it. Let overcoming it become the confidence you carry into the next challenge.

What challenge are you committed to overcoming right now?

Peace. Love. Progress. 🖤 by @donaldwatts24
