Not a sexy travel post but a really important one.

I get to travel a lot for work and it’s what I choose to invest money and time in. Thinking about what it means to travel. The luxury of travelling for pleasure. The urgency of travelling for survival, for freedom - whether that be from repression or a political regime. I’ve just finished “We Came by Sea” by @horatiowrites and am equally horrified and hopeful about the state the UK has found itself in with this conflated “immigration/small boats/asylum crisis”. Only 7% of all immigrants to the UK are seeking asylum. 7%! With the majority of those seeking it, having it granted legally and through due process.

I feel hopeful imagining the reality that Clare depicts of creating safe and legal passages for those seeking safety through asylum that would get rid of the perilous Channel crossings. And that the issue of thousands of job positions that need filling could be solved by giving them to people who are willing to risk their whole lives by coming to the UK, in the belief it’s a compassionate, fair and just land that they are willing to dedicate their lives to.

The newspapers have dehumanised the people at the centre of this issue - well, the brown and black ones - remember how easy and efficient it was for Ukrainian refugees to claim official status in the UK when that war broke out? And how proud we were as a nation (depicted by the media) to be so welcoming and accommodating to these people coming from war torn Ukraine (as we should have been)? Imagine what the UK would look and feel like if they applied that same feeling and logic to all other displaced people? Imagine!!!!

Thank you Horatio for such a thoughtful, well researched and refreshing read on the importance of immigration and how the role of reframing it could redefine us a nation. And to @asylum_speakers for banging a drum and giving a platform to the people behind these crazy stories. And @julietkinsman for being such a proponent on making this an important thread in the media and travel narrative.

As the daughter and granddaughter of immigrants, I will do what I can do turn the tide of hate. ⛵️ by @doolalllie

Press trips are really strange things to describe to anyone that does not work in the travel industry. Gathering a load of strangers on what looks like a holiday (actual hard work taking place, honest) to experience a destination and feel its magic. Some crazy alchemy is created with memories and friends being made.
@alexandradudley cooked up a storm this week at the beautiful @domainemadrona in French Catalonia using lashings of @querubi_olive_oil. It’s a majestic land on the ancient path of the Cathars, framed by the Pyrenees where your worries disappear with each outward breath and are replaced by smiles of contentment. Putting this bombshell magic into a bottle to sprinkle over the days that need a bit of brightness. 🪄 taken in Domaine de Querubi by @doolalllie

Integrating into every day life after being at @medicinefestival is always a bit of a bumpy landing! To be part of a gathering where so much ancient wisdom is shared is such a privilege. 🌀

Indigenous wisdom carriers from every corner of the world sharing the knowledge of their ancestors that have carried them in this world for thousands of years. We need their wisdom now. Their lands are the ones most affected by climate change. We can’t lose them or their ways. 🪶

My festival closed with a water ceremony led by a Colombian indigenous leader, Zuly, honouring the land and the water. Her people understand that the extractive mining of Latin America (a lot being undertaken illegally) over the last few decades is impacting the earth so is it any wonder there have been an increase of earthquakes. She described the way humans take resources from the Earth like draining our bodies of blood..... you can only take so much before it collapses. That image has been so powerful for me. 🩸

Other highlights include being introduced to INCREDIBLE dancing of @amenti.world and hearing @gilthegrid talk about movement as liberation, learning the art of striptease with @pat_elle (who made it hilarious and fun), honouring the wisdom of the Celtic lands with so much dee-diddly romp roaring music, seeing @nessigomes and @fatoumata_diawara play.... discovering so many new artists whose songs I will now have on repeat.... being part of the first Circle, a space for deep dive conversations - the one I was in was discussing Artificial vs Ancestral Intelligence with experts for and again AI and then the indigenous wisdom from Elders being part of the conversation..... And so so so much more. 💥

In amongst all this magic that took place amongst the centuries old trees and cooling lakes of @wasing1759 , I bumped into and met new and old faces... @luinluland in her neon leopard print parlour bus, @laurenjaynepringle who I last saw 20 years ago ripping up the dance floors of Buenos Aires, @wildwomenhearth, @arnottandarnottphotography and spending time with @rosiejunderwood , @milliemackintosh, @heavenonearth.co.uk , @mickeymonroexx, @monicapinnaphotography @addi_merrill ✨ cont. below by @doolalllie

🌟 💫 ⭐️ wow wow wow a night of metagazing with @physicsofenergy and @covevalley ✨🌿💥

We gathered around a fire 🔥 and took part in the ancient ritual of storytelling and song around the flames plus the obligatory addition of toasting marshmallows and stickily sandwiching them in chocolate biscuits. 🍪

Dr Aude told us the Nigerian tale of how the sky got to be so far away (greedy humans 🧐) and then we banged drums, blew pipes and rattled seed pods as we sang to the moon! Joyful! It stirred something old and wise in my bones…. Mental note to do this more often….

We were guided in a quantum meditation, minds blown at the fact that some atoms in our body are almost as old as the Big Bang…. 💥

And as darkness fell, the stars scattered across the night sky and we saw them as the ancient civilisations did, hearing the myths they inspired.. the Big Dipper here, a few hops across to the North Star there (not the brightest star I previously thought - that’s Venus), Ursa Minor and Major…. the Andromeda Galaxy… satellites flying tiny and bright.

I made a vow last week to be more silly. Life is so serious and silliness feels good…. I guess the older I get silliness means more to do stuff really without caring, remove the gnarly outer edges of getting older that encourage being an adult and discourage being childlike. Most other things make being a responsible adult quite unavoidable. Being struck by awe and wonder hit the spot. STARSTRUCK ✨🤩 by @doolalllie

Happy birthday to me!
Grateful for extra voluptuousness, tiredness lines marking my face and brain function, waking up to sunshine and my SONshine, my love, my village, another year round the son.
My maiden era is over. Embracing the mother, the goddess. The gods of the sea for this delicious bounty and to the wine gods for the bacchanalian flow.

Moments from a week at @domainemadrona...

As you drive along winding roads towards Domaine Madrona, the mountains around the dusty tracks become ever wilder, quieter, and more beautiful. In the deepest untamed Eastern Pyrenees, we spent time with the team over a sun-drenched week of long lunches amid the buzzing bee-filled lavender bushes, feasting on market provisions, sun-weary dips in the pool, oil tasting right there on site where the Querubi magic is bottled, visits to nearby Elne, Collioure, and Ceret, wine tasting at the extraordinary @mascareil and merry dinners fuelled by lively discussions and bountiful plates and glasses of local delights of all kinds.

What has stayed with us the most are the people behind it - the beating heart of the ecosystem there. It would be hard to find a team more connected to the land, more dedicated to their community and craft, than Holly, Willem and the wider Querubi team. Everything here is done for a reason, nothing is wasted, all things are honoured, which more often than not also means doing it the hard way. Querubi has been farming entirely chemical-free for over 20 years, embracing regenerative, soil-positive methods that come with challenges, unpredictability and extra work, but also produce extraordinary olive oil and thriving land that feels alive in every sense.

Now we are home it’s time to turn dreaming into action - stay tuned for more news and stories from @domainemadrona and @querubi_olive_oil 🫒 by @doolalllie

Sweet Humph, what an honour and privilege to be one of your humans these last few years. A lady called Humph, like Nana in Peter Pan, you were always there, often tripped over, utterly adorable until the very end. I mostly prefer the company of dogs these days and your companionship was the very best. I loved our adventures and our walks and how you liked to take the lead and look back to check we were all following you, how you loved chugging through the water like a seal, how your deep baritone bark broke the terrier trill every time the dog orchestra played (often), how you were a rock for our family and my heart is broken that you’re gone. It feels silly to write you an IG post, Humph, because you never could have read it but it feels good to get the words out and share the ache of saying goodbye to a beloved pet as there is solace in knowing that others understand that pet isn’t strong enough a word, because it goes deeper than that. You were a member of the family and always will be. Ari won’t remember you but I’ll tell him how important you were in the first year of his life and how he farted so loudly as we buried you that our tears turned to laughter and that was kind of hilarious and lovely. The duality of life and death, joy and pain. 16 long, happy years. You were so loved, sweet angel girl Humph and always will be. ✨ by @doolalllie

Spring always feels like the true start of the year for me. Hibernating, ruminating, eating, cooking, planning, sleeping (fewer hours these days 👶 but occasional naps with him are lovely) and then the stirring. Imbolc on 1st February is the first signal, the Celtic first day of spring marking the exact midway point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, the earth waking up. Planting seeds with my boy, his chunky fingers prodding the earth, and everything feels so hopeful. Living with a village and I don’t know how women were told they could “have it all” and expect that really to be true without lots of support. Living in matriarchal community is surely the only antidote to the shitshow happening right now. (Surely?) Anyway, planting seeds and village life is the plan. I dream of a vegetable garden. Any recipe woes have been alleviated by @alexandradudley’s beautiful new cookbook - she elevates every day cooking into the sublime. A final foray of travel as my tummy swelled and I started to wonder who was going to greet us as the daffodils started to bloom… 💐
Cold dips and cabaret in Oslo, hammam and hugs in Marrakech, surrendering to the spa in the Sahyadri Mountains 🏔️
Then my little Aurelio appeared and the rest of the year has been a whirlwind of little hands and loud laughs, working out which way is up and when the day begins and nights end, my village holding me so tightly and not quite believing how quickly the days pass and the year has flown and that my heart is so full and that a human can function quite well being so tired 💓
2025 - I won’t forget you! Happy New Year ✨ by @doolalllie
