Today my firstborn Medha turns 36 and my second born turns 7. Yes, my business baby Dora by Phoenix turns seven today! What started in 2019 as something I thought I would give a try, has grown into something so much bigger than I ever imagined. I did not have a grand business plan, nor did I know where this journey would take me. I just had an idea, a little curiosity, a love for fabrics and a whole lot of enthusiasm to see where it would lead. Seven years later, Dora is no longer just a business. She has been my companion through some of life’s most challenging and rewarding phases. She has given me a purpose, a creative identity, a community, friendships, countless stories and most importantly the courage to keep reinventing myself. There have been moments of doubt, struggles, mistakes, little victories and some incredibly proud moments. There have also been days when I have wondered whether I was doing enough or getting anywhere at all. But here we are. Seven years. And just like my firstborn, who has grown into a woman of her own, my second born is growing, evolving and finding her own voice. I do not know what the next seven years hold, but I know I am not done dreaming, experimenting and creating. To everyone who has been part of Dora’s journey, who has worn our creations, supported us, cheered us on, walked into our studio , stopped by our stall at exhibitions or simply rooted for us from afar, thank you. You are a part of this story too. Happy 7th birthday my child Dora by Phoenix. Look how far we’ve come❤ī¸ seven years of entrepreneurship, women led business, sustainable Indian fashion, handcrafted textiles, journey of building an independent fashion label , saree boutique in Kolkata. by @dora_byphoenix
It was Ekadashi and I was not expecting anyone. The studio was closed. I was relaxing. Then the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find Mitali, a chic, lovely woman who looked a little embarrassed about dropping in when she knew we were closed. But I was delighted! She had discovered Dora by Phoenix on Instagram and had come looking for specific prints that had spoken to her. The moment I asked her about them, her face lit up. Watching her explore the prints like a child in a candy shop, was an absolute joy. She knew exactly what she wanted, and she found them. What began as an unexpected visit turned into a lovely afternoon of shopping, stories and adda. Listening to her, I was reminded once again: this is why I do what I do. Mitali, thank you for making a special trip to Dora during your Pujo visit to Kolkata all the way from Manchester. Your words and your enthusiasm made my year and reminded me why these little connections mean so much. See you again soon . @kritiagrawal.95 chose this begumpur cotton over a video call. She said she would be visiting Kolkata for the first time to experience Durga pujo. This seemed a perfect choice , shada laal, easy to drape and comfortable for the humid weather. The pictures have finally reached us and I am awestruck !
