At some point, paying attention requires more than creating a fascinating collection of observations. You have seen the pattern. You have gathered the data. You have written the same damn thing in your notebook several times. Okay. Now what? Response does not need to mean throwing a grenade into your calendar. It can be small: ask the question; change one step; try another route; have the conversation; say ‘no’ once; test the idea; and then observe what happens. That last part matters. Notice. Respond. Notice again. Because the response gives you new information. That is how this becomes a practice instead of another notebook full of things you already know. by @dorthahise
We are excellent at noticing what we want to add: A new idea! A new offer! A new project! Oooooh, shiny! 😂 We are often slower to notice what has already run its course: A commitment. A process. A goal. A relationship to our work. Sometimes nothing exploded. And it doesn’t mean anyone failed. You changed. This week’s question: What am I maintaining because it used to make sense? You do not have to eliminate anything on the spot. Pay attention to what your answer reveals. Sometimes noticing the expiration date is enough for now. by @dorthahise
I can talk myself into a LOT of things. My body is less impressed by my PowerPoint presentation. 😂 There are moments when the body responds before the brain has finished preparing its argument - a tightening, an exhale, shoulders creeping toward your ears, energy dropping out of the room. Or the opposite happens: interest, expansion, the little internal YES, pay attention to this. I do not treat body responses like marching orders. They are information. Another data point. This week, when something gets your attention, ask: What happened in my body? No story required. Simply notice. by @dorthahise

I am naturally curious as hell. Which is useful. And occasionally, it is why I know far too much about a completely random subject by 5:30 in the morning. 😂 Curiosity gets treated like a distraction a lot. Especially in business. In business, we ask: Is this useful? Can I monetize it? Does this support the plan? Sometimes I want to ask a different question: Is this interesting? Because curiosity changes where we look. And where we look changes what we notice. This week, follow one thing that catches your attention. A bird. A weird statistic. A plant. A question. A sentence in a book. A process in your business that makes you wonder, “Why the hell do we do it that way?” Give it ten minutes. No deliverable. See where it takes you. by @dorthahise
I’ve been thinking a lot about what I call the second note. The first note is fast: “This person is rude.” “This system doesn’t work.” “I’m procrastinating.” “My audience doesn’t care about this.” Maybe. Stay with it for another minute. What else are you noticing? A weird handoff in the system? A body response before the task? Three missed expectations nobody ever discussed? A question underneath the obvious one? The second note does not erase the first. It adds information. I invite you to try this the next time you feel certain you understand what is happening: What else am I noticing? No need to manufacture an answer. Simply look a little longer. by @dorthahise
"When I came back home, it was the first time I had felt just peace and calm in my heart around everything that had happened. And the only thing I could point to was that time in nature." 🌲✨ In Episode 4 of our Frequency Series on The Lighthouse Podcast, I sit down with Integrative Somatic Practitioner, strategic business coach, and nature enthusiast Dortha Hise (@dorthahise) to explore nature as one of our greatest teachers for healing, leadership, and resilience. In this clip, Dortha shares a deeply personal moment about how a 3-day backpacking trip amidst profound grief provided her with the reflection, prayer, and grounding needed to find true peace. As the founder of Summit To Your Success and creator of the Nature Guides to Self-Healing card decks, Dortha helps others harness somatic awareness and the natural frequency of the outdoors to support their life and work. This entire series and the featured July article by Mark Pooler were inspired by the groundbreaking film Frequency, created by @kaiaromanauthor. We are also proud to highlight the headliner of the article, @brucelipton, whose work continues to expand our understanding of how environment and belief shape our lives. Tune in to discover how connecting with nature’s frequency can help restore calm to your own heart and mind! 🎧✨ 🔗 Click the link in my bio to listen to the episode and read the featured article! . . . #staceyannhall #thelighthousepath #vibrationalfrequency #somatichealing #natureasmedicine #nervoussystemregulation #healinginnature by @dorthahise
Some things are persistent little buggers. A question you thought you answered. An idea you keep dismissing. A frustration that shows up wearing three different outfits. A sentence you apparently need to write in your journal 47 times. At some point, repetition becomes information. I’m not saying that every recurring thought requires a life overhaul. Please do not quit your business, sell the house, and start raising alpacas because the same thought showed up twice. 😂 I’m inviting you to notice it. This week’s field practice: Create a note called Things That Keep Returning. Record what repeats. No explanation required. No action plan. At the end of the week, read the list. What is asking for a closer look? That is where we start. by @dorthahise
Well, this wasn't on my 2026 dance card. 😂🍦 Apparently @getdeel and @drbombaysnax are looking for someone to get paid $10,000/month to taste ice cream for @snoopdogg I have opinions about ice cream. I have opinions about flavor. And, I LOVE SCIENCE. 🧪 Obviously, I raised my hand. ✋🏽 Give me a spoon, a bowl, and the weirdest flavor. I'm there. #SNOOPISHIRING by @dorthahise
Early this morning, I noticed crepuscular rays. Which is a very fancy name for those beautiful rays of sunlight stretching across the sky. ☀️ I didn't know what they were called. I just knew they made me stop and look. Sometimes paying attention comes with a vocabulary lesson. by @dorthahise
I’ve been thinking about how much information we miss while moving through the day. The recurring frustration we treat like a one-off. The idea we keep dismissing. The tension that shows up during the same conversation. The bird we hear every morning but never stop to look for. None of this means everything carries a profound message. Thank God. That would be exhausting. It means our lives, businesses, bodies, relationships, and surroundings give us information all day long. We catch some of it. We walk past plenty. This new series is called: The Practice of Paying Attention Over seven episodes, we’re going to look at patterns, curiosity, second notes, body signals, things that no longer fit, and what happens when an observation finally asks for a response. We’ll keep it practical. And this series is leading somewhere specific: a 90-minute virtual Field Session where we’ll practice paying attention together. Your field can be wherever you are. Your office. Your porch. Your backyard. Your favorite chair. Or hell yes, take me along on a walk if that’s where you think best. Because the field isn’t one particular place. It’s where you begin paying attention. For now, start here: What have you been walking right past? Next up: Notice What Keeps Returning. by @dorthahise
