A few moments from Seoul Art Week where we announced @mplusmuseum’s upcoming annual exhibitions and programs. A quick trip. but always inspiring to reconnect with artists, colleagues, and longtime friends.

Excited for what’s ahead, and we hope to see everyone in Hong Kong soon.

When we decided to organize our Yayoi Kusama retrospective in 2018, with the artist’s blessings, the original plan was to open the exhibition in 2021, one year after @mplusmuseum’s planned grand opening in 2020. Then, the pandemic intervened.

My co-curator @mikayoshitake, based in the US, and I were unable to travel to Japan, so we had to organize everything remotely with extra help from the artist’s supremely professional and organized team. The experience of isolation and distance, and fears and uncertainties deepened our understanding and appreciation of Kusama’s challenges and resolves, of the prophetic nature of her philosophy, and of the truly healing power of her art.

When we finally opened our exhibition in November 2022, just at the cusp of Hong Kong reopening to the world and celebrating the first anniversary of the museum’s opening, the joy we felt was amplified with profound poignancy. Kusama never got to see our exhibition, though she expressed a real wish to do so. We felt her presence nonetheless throughout our exhibition, and we know that she left indelible impressions on all of us and our audiences. taken in M+ by @doryunchong

An incredible array of exhibitions in Paris around the summer solstice, during a historic “canicule” with the temperature soaring near and past 40 degrees!

Pictured: “L’Asie” (1946) at ‘Matisse 1941-1954’ organized by the Centre Pompidou (@centrepompidou) and presented at the Grand Palais (@le_grand_palais)

Congratulations to Claudine Grammont (@claudinegrammont), the Head of the Graphic Arts department at the Centre Pompidou, for the epic exhibition.

It’s been an absolute pleasure and honor to install and open the major survey exhibition “Lee Bul: from 1998 to Now” at @mplusmuseum. 1998 was a major turning point in Lee’s career with her internationally debuting her acclaimed “Cyborg” series. Though early in my professional journey, I got to meet her in-person soon after, and I never forgot how open and generous she was with her time and ideas to this then-young curator. She was just as generous in our opening day talk at M+, and the audience was completely rapt.

A big shout out to my co-curator June Young Kwak at Leeum Museum of Art (@leeummuseumofart) and the whole M+ team. Looking forward to audience responses and also to the upcoming international tour to M HKA (@mhkamuseum) in Antwerp and the National Gallery of Canada (@natgallerycan), following our presentation. by @doryunchong

An unforgettable occasion with Lee Ufan, as I hosted a public conversation with him at @mplusmuseum to a full-house audience, dazzled by his profound messages. Over the more than two decades I’ve known him, Lee Ufan has always been so kind and generous to me. Grateful he found a moment in his extremely busy schedule to visit the museum, including the display of his work in our exhibition, and meet with Hong Kong visitors. Glad that he got to enjoy the dance activation on his work, ‘Relatum—The Mirror Road’ in ‘Shanshui: Echoes and Signals’. #LeeUfan by @doryunchong

Opening today, ‘Zao Wou-Ki Master Printmaker’ presents a new aspect of the late Chinese-French artist, highlighting Zao’s printmaking practice. Congratulations @marose_ and team! This is also the last (!) exhibition opening in 2025 at @mplusmuseum.

The exhibition is only possible thanks to the incredibly generous donation from Madame Françoise Marquet-Zao, making M+ the collection with one of the largest holding of prints and illustrated books by Zao Wou-Ki. Many thanks also to Yann Hendgen the artistic director of Zao Wou-Ki Foundation (@fondationzaowouki) for his partnership and for co-curating our exhibition! by @doryunchong

This is another dream come true moment. I first started talking to the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation more than a decade ago about a possible exhibition of Rauschenberg, one of my lodestar artists, way before the opening of @mplusmuseum. That it is finally happening much later than originally imagined but coinciding with the centennial of the artist’s birth seems like fate. So grateful to @rauschenbergfoundation and Russell Storer (@aseasonoutside) who took it on to bring it to fruition! by @doryunchong
