On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we recognize the rich history, and enduring spirit of indigenous communities that have survived centuries of systematic challenges. It is a moment to celebrate a culture that continues to thrive and protect sacred traditions for future generations--especially ancestral connection Indigenous Peoples have to the land and water.

@the.root A Quaker congregation in Philadelphia is using its resources to help address the racial wealth gap through homeownership.

Green Street Friends Meeting in Germantown has committed upwards of $500,000 over the next decade to its reparations initiative. This year, the congregation is providing five $10,000 grants to first-time Black homebuyers.

The initiative seeks to address the long history of discrimination that limited Black families’ access to homeownership and wealth-building opportunities.

One Philadelphia family has already used a $10,000 grant to help purchase its first home.

We are gathering our Lakou this week to uplift Haitian life against annihilation. We are sharing space with those on the island fighting to transform Haiti amidst massacre and kidnapping, and those in the diaspora who endure shame and despair due to TPS surveillance and violence. Our lakou can provide us space to weep even as we strategize for our lives.

Thank you to all orgs involved in supporting our facilitators in Haiti and aiding the visibility of this work.

Meditations...
through rough times few will ever know of

(the kind you don't know if you'll make it through),

good times you may happen to see a glimpse of

(the kind you keep for yourself v the gram),

and everything in between,

I remain grateful for my time on this great big ball of mud we call Earth.

All the lessons,
joys and pains,
sunshine and rain,
people who have come and gone,
have all contributed to who I am,
was,
will be, and
will never be again.

Taking some time out to take it all in.

Looking forward to all the new people I have yet to meet, and places I have yet to see.

Wishing you love, light, self-discovery and actualization. 🙏🏾😘🤗 by @dotiejoseph

Thank you for your service, Representative Dotie Joseph, Esq., and Member of the Dade Delegation from 2018-2026.

Representative Joseph is a Haiti born community leader, attorney, and public servant whose service began early, including her work as an intern at the Carter Center under President Jimmy Carter.

In 2018, she was elected to represent Florida’s 108th District, where she continues to serve. She served as Vice Chair of the Dade Delegation from 2021-22. Also in 2022, her colleagues elected her Minority Leader Pro Tempore, making her the first Haitian American to serve in a leadership position in both state and federal government in the United States.

Throughout her career, Representative Joseph has been an advocate for fairness, equality, and meaningful representation. In the Florida Legislature, she has consistently introduced and supported legislation addressing housing affordability, homeownership, insurance affordability, immigration reform, healthcare access, religious liberty, women’s equality, LGBTQIA+ rights and protections, and many other issues. by @dotiejoseph

Although the election did not go the way we hoped, I want to be clear about something: this campaign was never about me. It was about the families across Florida who feel unheard, unseen, struggling to make ends meet, and don't trust that their government is working for them. Florida families deserve so much better so let's stay engaged in the General so we can do our part. by @dotiejoseph

State Rep. Dotie Joseph believes Floridians deserve a state government that makes their lives easier, protects their rights and puts their needs ahead of political division.

Joseph, a Democratic candidate for governor who would make history if elected, outlined a platform centered on affordability, civil rights, education, health care, housing and immigration during an interview on the Can We Talk Podcast powered by Hy-Lo News.

“I know how to make the government work for us,” Joseph said. “And right now, it ain’t working for us. So I want to change that.”
