The photo behind me was taken at the 2018 WPC World Championships in Orlando, Florida. The day before my competition, I came down with food poisoning—my goodness, what a nightmare. I gave it everything I had and came home with the world title. Never back down …

We’ve recently gained quite a few new followers from the Sumo bubble — which makes us really happy. Welcome! At the same time, we seem to have lost about the same number of earlier followers… haha. Sumo probably just isn’t their thing.

If you’re new to Sumo, here are a few accounts I highly recommend — I learned an incredible amount from them, especially in the beginning.
@fokkusuu_wokkusu
@haus_of_grand_sumo
@ikabuntai
@gian_ozumomo etc.

Podcast lovers: @sumomainichi and @sumokaboom are absolute recommendations. Entertaining, passionate, and always full of insights.

Most of our Sumo content lives in our stories, since it’s mainly reposts. What we share ourselves are our travels, things we love, and of course our training.

xxx ❤️🎋🙌

Met these guys while walking through Kensington Gardens — they were kind enough to take a photo with me, even though I think they were hoping for a bit of peace and quiet. Super friendly — and wow, seriously big and broad! And those kimonos and yukatas — absolutely beautiful.

By the way, can anyone tell me who the nice sumotori next to Tsukubayama from the Tatsunami stable is?

We train hard, travel light, and do our best to keep old age from catching up with us.

That’s what we came for. London Sumo Tournament 2025 — the first Grand Sumo outside Japan since 1991. A true once-in-a-lifetime experience. More great moments to share once the dust settles.

Thank you for taking the time to take these photos with us.

A moment from last weekend. I still can’t believe I got to meet one of my favourites in person. I even worked up the courage to talk to him in super basic Japanese and ask for a photo. I was as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning 🤩🙌Well, my big smile says it all 🫣😄😁🤭.

I need more sumo.

Sumo in London last year was such an amazing experience. Unfortunately, our jobs don’t allow us to fly to Japan for a basho at the moment. So we’ll just have to enjoy the YouTube broadcasts and the experiences that other sumo fans share here.

Still thinking about London last year and that unreal sumo moment. Now all eyes on the upcoming basho in May. The countdown is on.

Thanks, Ichiyamamoto, for taking these pictures with us — and sorry for disturbing your fresh-air break! 😄

Hope you weren’t too annoyed. 🫣 So sorry!
