This is a song I wrote a few years ago and recorded with Little One, a band I had in Portland.

I'm getting ready for a concert in Viroqua, and this is one of the songs I'm going to play. If you're in the area, join us October 16th at Arkadia! (Details in my bio.)

This is a song about fatherhood. I have some strong memories about when I was a little kid waking up in my bed though I didn't remember how I got there. I never thought about it until much later of course, but it was my dad that carried me up to bed, making it happen as if by magic. If you're lucky enough to be a parent, this is some of the magic that's required.

The full song at full resolution is on my YouTube channel. Find the link in my bio.

Friends, please support @rebeccasanborn 's Kickstarter for her amazing album Shadow Work! Just a short time left to make sure this project is funded. If you're a fan of artists bringing work into the world that is unique and personal and generous with sharing so much about struggle and beauty and doubt and triumph, you're going to love this album, and you'll be happy that you helped support it. Every donation matters. Thanks! Go get it, y'all!

Rebecca Sanborn's new album Shadow Work is truly amazing. She did amazing work on this record and I want you all to hear it. Will you help her over the finish line with her Kickstarter? Find the link in my bio.

It took a big community of artists to make this record happen, and we need a big community of supporters to pitch in! These are the kinds of projects that are rare because of the risk involved. Most folks look at the time budget required for an album with 18 musicians, 6 arrangers and 3 audio technicians and say no thanks buddy. But Rebecca stepped into that, and I admire her so much for it.

Another set I got to see at @montavillajazzfest was @shelly.rudolph Orfea Rising. She and I had talked about the project years ago as just an idea a long way from realization. So it was great to see the project brought to life! Congratulations to Shelley and thanks to MJF! by @douglasdetrick

I got to listen to music on the @montavillajazzfest Saturday at Portland Metro Arts and the Montavilla Plaza during the day before catching my flight back home. The Collective curated by Dae Bryant was a big highlight. I found it very dynamic, covering a lot of ground by balancing composed and improvised elements and creating space for each member to step forward and make very personal statements. by @douglasdetrick

DOUGLAS IS DOPE

Let’s continue the journey through the adorable geniuses and made Shadow Work possible!

Douglas asked me to compose for the Peripatetic Piano series that sparked this project. He later arranged Side A of Shadow Work for PJCE. After that he encouraged me to get a grant to record. I’m endlessly grateful for his support and guidance!

Please check out the Renaissance artist that is @douglasdetrick

Shadow Work is so close to reaching our budget goal… check out the kickstarter link in my bio if you would like to support this community of musicians.

Also you can listen to Shadow Work now! Out on @portlandjazzcomposers records!

p.s. LOL that moment I’m weirdly hiding behind myself in this video hahaaa #dork

I was proud to see a big turnout in Viroqua for #nokings day. Used my soros money for this sign, JK I had to rewrite the letters three times. I was also super proud to be out there with my kids, one in front of the camera, the other was behind. Thanks to all who organized! #nokingsviroqua by @douglasdetrick

Heading home now from some time visiting family and working with @substrateartsconsulting clients in Portland. Spring has decidedly *not* sprung in Wisconsin, so it was fun to see the flowers.
