One of the most overlooked things in diving is analyzing your gas. Most people say, โ€œOh, but I only filled it with air,โ€ which might be true. But what if you accidentally grabbed the wrong tank and it didnโ€™t contain air, but something else?

Or what if the filling station made a mistake and blended the wrong gas into your tank? You wouldnโ€™t be the first person that happened toโ€ฆ

Thatโ€™s why we value gas analysis so much. It allows us to verify that we brought the correct tank(s) from home to the dive site so we can safely conduct our dive.

This step only takes about 2โ€“3 minutes, but one day it could save your life!

Another important part is deciding what information to write on your gas analysis sticker.

I believe it should be clear and easy to read. Donโ€™t overcomplicate it by trying to write everything on there.

This is what I include:

โ€ข Name / initials
โ€ข Maximum operating depth (MOD) for the gas (for air, mine is 30 m)
โ€ข Type of gas
โ€ข Date the gas was analyzed
โ€ข Tank pressure

The sticker also serves as an additional verification point for your teammates during pre-dive checks. It allows them to confirm that you didnโ€™t accidentally bring the wrong tanks from the car.

What do you write on your gas analysis sticker?

Let me know in the comments below!

~ Felicitas mine dive ~
Some dives are worth going deeper for.
Exploring the hidden side of the Felicitas Mine in Germany โ€” all the way to the small machine room, a place rarely visited by divers.

Crystal clear visibility, silent tunnels, and a glimpse into the mineโ€™s forgotten past.

Getting my sidemount liberty dialed in. Iโ€™m at 6 hours at the moment on the unit and spending those hours practicing and doing intensive training. I managed to get my weight distribution almost perfect!

The no fins excersize is one of my favorite to do at the end of a dive to see how i am underwater, balance wise.
This gives me clear feedback aswell on what i have to do with my weight. And after putting my fins back in, you are so in controle of everything. Thatโ€™s a very special moment!

Almost 4 weeks dry. Send help. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Possibly my longest no-dive streak in 5 years. I got sick, and just as I was about to recover, everyone around me started dropping like flies. ๐Ÿฅฒ
But tomorrow, Iโ€™m finally getting back underwater. German mines are calling!

Whatโ€™s your longest dry spell? ๐Ÿ‘€

I was basically playing priest, sprinkling holy water from the cave spring onto the camera. Iโ€™m not really a believer, but in that moment, it just felt like the right thing to do. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The best part? I was using my @bigbluetechnologies vl20.000 as holy water brush๐Ÿ™Œ

For many people, a small pool of water illuminated by the sunlight is just that โ€” a quiet, beautiful place. For us cave divers, it can be the entrance to an entirely different world.

Beneath the Yucataฬn Peninsula in Mexico lies an immense network of submerged caves, stretching for kilometres beneath the jungle. And sometimes, after hours spent exploring the darkness, you emerge into a place like this. Sunlight on the water, silence all around you, and a moment of peace that feels almost impossible to describe.

Itโ€™s easy to see only the beauty of this moment. What often goes unseen are the years of training, discipline and dedication it takes to experience it safely. In an overhead environment, every decision matters. Time is limited, conditions can change, and there is no direct route to the surface.

Perhaps thatโ€™s what makes these moments so special. After everything it takes to get there, youโ€™re reminded that sometimes, the most extraordinary experiences are also the simplest.

A little sunlight. A quiet pool. And an entire world hidden beneath your feet.

How do you spend your deco time?

In the past, Iโ€™ve watched movies, had a drink, swam around, watched fishiesโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ  It all depends on the environment youโ€™re in!

But at the end of the day, it all comes down to hanging there and waiting for the green light to surface! ๐Ÿคฟ

Do you have anything special you like to do while hanging in deco? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Diving itsnโ€™t always jumping of the back of a boat and having to carry little gear. Sometimes the getting to the divespot takes a few hours. And some might say it is not worth it, but it dependsโ€ฆ doing such thing with people you like, being in nature, walking around and doing a picknick doesnโ€™t sounds that bad to me?
For sure some places are amazing to dive and that makes the experience even better, but if you donโ€™t try youโ€™ll never know!

Often, I hear people say that the first diver always has the best view and visibility โ€” and in many cases, thatโ€™s true. But when the whole team is aware of their positioning, and youโ€™re not in a small, highly restricted system, teammates #2 and #3 can enjoy an incredible perspective as well.

I actually love diving in the second or third position. It adds so much depth to the scene, and when you turn your light away, the contrast show can truly begin.

Visibility was so good here you can even see that i am wearing the apeks RK3 fins!

Weโ€™ve all been thereโ€ฆ

โ€œHow long can you dive with that tank?โ€
โ€œHow deep can you go?โ€
โ€œArenโ€™t there sharks?โ€
โ€œWhat happens if something fails?โ€

Most of these questions come from curiosity and a lack of familiarity with the underwater world. And honestly, we canโ€™t blame people for not knowing what theyโ€™ve never experienced.

The funny thing is that many of these questions donโ€™t have a simple one-line answer. Thereโ€™s usually a lot more behind them than most people realize.

Maybe, as divers, we should do a better job of educating the outside world and sharing what diving is really about. The more familiar it becomes, the more people will understand our passion for it.

Whatโ€™s the question you hear the most? ๐Ÿ‘‡ taken in France by @downbelowwithkjento
