Carrière de Vodelée 🤿🇧🇪

I expected crystal-clear water… but our dive turned out quite differently.

With around 8 metres of visibility and plenty of particles in the water, conditions weren’t exactly what I had hoped for. But there was still plenty to explore — steep marble walls, a small wreck, a silo, a tank and, of course, the sturgeons. 🐟

Those massive fish were definitely one of the highlights of the dive.

When your scuba certification finally comes in handy on land 🤿🧅😂 Turns out all those hours underwater were actually just training for the real challenge: cutting onions without shedding a single tear. Some people cry. Divers come prepared. 💪🏼

Sometimes a dive buddy doesn’t have to be human. 🐟🤿

This sturgeon appeared out of nowhere and somehow ended up leading me straight back to my dive buddies. 😂

One of those unexpected underwater moments that makes every dive a little more special.

Would you follow a sturgeon? 👇

A great day underwater at Carrière de Vodelée. 🤿🌊

I went diving with Kjento and Maja, who showed me around the site and took me to some interesting spots.

I also had some more time to put two dive lights through their paces: the OrcaTorch D710 MK2 and the LentonPower Tynny-13FD. 🔦

It was great to try both lights in different situations and get a better feel for how they perform underwater.

Which photo is your favorite? 👇

September 13 is International Karst Day.

Karst reminds us that a landscape is much more than what we see at the surface. Water disappears into rock, follows hidden routes and, over thousands of years, shapes extraordinary underground landscapes.
During the NOVA Projects Križna Jama Expedition this summer, we had the privilege of exploring one small part of that world. Places like Križna Jama are a reminder of how much remains unseen, how much we still have to understand, and why these environments deserve both our curiosity and protection.

Today is a good day to look beneath the surface.

Before a scientist can ever take a sample underwater, there is a world of invisible work: days of hauling heavy gear through narrow, muddy crawls, complex logistical planning, and negotiating extreme, unpredictable environments. Reaching the most remote corners of the planet requires a team that operates like clockwork long before anyone even puts on a mask.

Scientific cave diving is one of the most inspiring and challenging fields in modern exploration. It demands precision, endurance, and gear that performs flawlessly when you are hours from the surface.

During the recent expedition to Križna Jama @kriznajamacave and Nova Križna Jama in Slovenia, the team spent intense days tackling rugged cave terrain, navigating complex logistics, and transporting equipment deep into the cave system. Their efforts paid off with 153 meters of new cave survey, the discovery of untouched chambers, and the collection of invaluable scientific data, including submerged cave-bear remains.

This is exactly why we created the XDEEP Exploration Support Program - to turn big exploration questions into historic discoveries.

„We started this expedition with one big question: is there a passage connecting Križna Jama and Nova Križna Jama? Two weeks later, we had pushed exploration in Nova Križna Jama to 153 meters, entered new underwater passages and highly decorated chambers in Križna Jama, documented submerged cave-bear remains, and collected new scientific data from places that are extremely difficult to reach.

Exploration like this depends on a huge team behind the divers, but also on equipment you can trust when you are hours from the surface. Having the support of the XDEEP Exploration Support Program and reliable equipment behind us was an important part of making this expedition possible. And perhaps the most exciting result is that every discovery seems to have opened another direction to explore.”

Almost two months since the end of the Križna Jama Expedition, and somehow I am still buried in post-expedition work. Reports, applications, paperwork, scientific follow-up, planning... Sometimes I get so caught up in everything that still needs to be done that I almost forget to look back at what we actually achieved.
Then I started scrolling through the expedition photos again.

And seeing images like this brought it all back. The logistics, the endless gear transports, the preparation, the long days underground, and this absolutely mad thing that we somehow managed to pull off together.

More than anything, it reminded me how many people were behind it. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time, energy, expertise, equipment and support to this project.

Now, while I am still finishing the story of 2026 on paper, I already find myself thinking about the next chapter.

The journey is mine, but I didn’t get here alone. Who I am today is a reflection of people who believed in me, taught me, and pushed me further. I wouldn’t be here without these people ❤️
A big shout out to my heroes! Thank you for getting me here- thank you for everything.
Happy Teachers’ Day!
