My name is Dimitri Gianacakes, and I’m the founder and head coach of Doxian Performance & Periodization. I was born and raised in Louisville, KY and currently reside in Austin, TX. I graduated from the University of Kentucky and I’ve been powerlifting since 2014.  My guiding light for Doxian was to create an infrastructure of success for Kentucky drug-free powerlifters. I was the very first UK collegiate powerlifter under the current format, and I was consistently one of only a handful of drug-free lifters who competed nationally in Kentucky. I’ve seen every stage of this sport over the last decade and I know how to approach it long term to “be somebody” that does something special. If you are that person, I will get you there. Your priorities and discipline will have to carry you the rest of the way. As a coach I’ve accomplished: USAPL Open National Champion, USAPL Collegiate National Champion, PA Open National Champion, USAPL Teen Silver Medalist, USAPL Junior Silver Medalist, USPA American Record holders, USAPL American Record holders, PA American Record holder, Multiple 500 Dots lifters, current top male/female lifters for USAPL KY based on Dots, USAPL Arnold qualifiers, USAPL pro cards, and 100’s of state record holders across USAPL, PA, USPA, RPS, WRPF. Ever since the creation of Doxian we’ve grown into a national brand that wins and performs at the meets that matter. I’m very blessed to be in the position to expand and grow our coaching team and I’m excited for the future. If you are seeking high level coaching please DM this page and tell us about what you're looking for and see if any of our highly trained coaches are a good fit. Characteristics we look for are good communicators, positive attitudes, and enthusiasm. Strength level doesn’t matter as a requisite starting out. by @doxian_performance
Hello, my name is Garrett Lockwood and I’m one of the new powerlifting coaches with Doxian. I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up as an athlete playing soccer, football, and basketball.  I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2022 and received my Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology/Exercise Science. I am currently attending the Ohio State University with the goal of graduating with my doctorate in occupational therapy (graduating in 2025). I have experience in physical rehab and pediatric rehab, with a goal of pursuing a practice in a pediatric therapy setting.  I spent a lot of time in the gym with basketball, but once Covid happened I spent a lot more time in the weight room. I was in and out of different training styles like bodybuilding and weightlifting, until I found powerlifting and fell in love with it during my final semester at UK. I shortly after did my first competition and have been hooked ever since. I’ve done 4 competitions so far, competing nationally twice, won best lifter, and broken a few state records. My favorite moment in powerlifting so far was getting the opportunity to help handle Brett Peach during his Collegiate Nationals win due to how climatic it was at the end. I’ve been fortunate to help Dimitri handle at 3 local meets and 2 national meets and the experience has been valuable. Seeing the growth physically and mentally of athletes is my favorite part of the coaching process so far and building that relationship. I’m excited for this opportunity. by @doxian_performance
My name is Ethan Snider and I’m a new coach with Doxian. I’ve been powerlifting since 2021 and I was a silver medalist at the 2022 Teen Nationals and 10th place for Junior Nationals in 2023 as a 75kg lifter. I hold the state record squat, deadlift, and total records for 75kg in Kentucky and am excited to help coach anyone who entrusts me with their powerlifting journey. I love seeing how clients respond to things a little differently. Two athletes could be the same age, weight, build and their training may look completely different from one another. This is where knowing your client and being able to pick up on clients patterns and trends through their training really helps so you can create a program for them that leads to the best results. My favorite thing I have learned throughout my study process is repeating block structures. Learning what I did right and also where I went wrong/aspects I can improve on to ensure the lifter can get maximum results while avoiding detraining them or overtraining them. What I am looking for in an athlete is someone who is coachable and takes constructive criticism well, trains hard, and enjoys the journey, not just the results. Athletes can expect me to be a very good communicator, attend to your training needs as quickly as possible, and help you be the most well rounded powerlifter you can be. by @doxian_performance
Client: Oliver Vaught Weight Class: 100kg (Open) IG: @the.powernerd Squat: 250kg/551lbs (+5kg) Bench: 152.5kg/336lbs (+2.5kg) Deadlift: 290kg/639lbs (+2.5kg) Total: 692.5kg/1526lbs (+15kg) Dots: 447 Oliver went 9/9 with a PR squat, bench, deadlift, and total. This was a 15kg PR over his best deadlift bar meet, and a 35kg PR over his best stiff bar meet prior to this. He won best overall lifter at this meet as well. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: Oliver started with Doxian 13 weeks ago coming off a rough failed meet prep. He was struggling to get his lifts to manifest on the platform and for how hard he was working, he wasn’t seeing things express how they should. He was also frustrated with never hitting a third attempt bench on meet day, and having never gone 9/9 after 6 plus years of competing. My job was straightforward and simple: fix his peaking model to express better on meet day, improve his attempt selection, and fix some of the movement limitations that were stifling his top end. We changed his squat mechanics to include a much more rigid setup to hold his brace better out of the hole. He started with this very flared and loose shoulder position, and flared foot angle that would lead to this very disjointed motion out of the hole with poor weight management at the bottom. Most of his mobility restrictions were solved with better mindfulness and a short checklist prior to squatting and this helped him immensely. Sensory wise, SSB Hatfield squats helped with how the bar was feeling on his back and worked wonderfully as a bridging mechanism for his secondary exposure. It emulated a lot of how he wants to squat and helped his confidence on his primary day with how things felt for him. Bench took the longest to dial in, he had this overly elaborate setup that would fall apart the moment he would unrack the bar. Simplifying his unrack mechanic and giving him a 3-step checklist to establish the goal for each set helped a ton and improved the quality of his exposures for each bench day to reinforce his technique. by @doxian_performance
Client: Bailey Truitt Weight Class: 70kg (Open) IG: @baileytruittfitness Squat: 135kg/298lbs (+5kg) Bench: 85kg/187lbs (+7.5kg) Deadlift: 165kg/364lbs (+10kg) Total: 385kg/849lbs (+22.5kg) Bailey went 8/9 with a PR squat, bench, deadlift, and total. Her only miss on the day was her second bench on strength, but she came back on her third and got it. She broke the Kentucky state deadlift record for her weight class too. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: Bailey had a good prep while balancing her very demanding job of being a lawyer with training. Due to the volatility of her external recovery, we opted for a training structure that allowed her to train as submaximally as possible throughout the block and relied on tracking the average intensity of her working sets very closely, compared to a more traditional top-set model for her indicator sets. She thrived under this and her body generally felt better during the block with this layout. Her bench soared to new heights and she hit some impressive deadlift numbers as well this prep. We are still working through some balance issues on squats, but overall things have gotten better here and things are trending in the right direction. Bailey trusted this low-intensity model and it paid off big time on meet day as this was the best she’s felt competing. Things expressed well and I’m excited to see what the future holds for her. A huge thank you to #1 fiancé/coach @lockwood_fitness for handling her and making good calls as there was no livestream for this meet. by @doxian_performance
Client: Aidan Dunn Weight Class: 83kg (Junior) IG: @aidandunn05 Squat: 247.5kg/546lbs (+12.5kg) Bench: 177.5kg/391lbs (+5kg) Deadlift: 245kg/540lbs (10kg) Total: 670kg/1477lbs (+27.5kg) Dots: 456 Aidan went 7/9 at his second meet; he missed his third bench due to downward motion and his third deadlift due to strength. He won best overall lifter at this meet and also broke the open/junior state record bench press for his weight class. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: Aidan has only been powerlifting since February of this year and has gotten exceptionally strong in such a short period of time. He hit training numbers of 560lbs on the squat, 425lbs on the bench (touch & go), and 555lbs on the deadlift to cap off this prep. Our goals going into the day were to win best overall lifter, retake the bench record, and cross off the 1500lb total milestone. Our goal strategy going into the day was to shoot for around a 252.5kg squat, 185kgs on the bench press, and a 250kg deadlift. Squats came in strong, but he was feeling a little crampy with his quads, so we played this on the safer side and took the lower end of our third attempt range. Bench was solid, but in order to get his lifts to pass elbow depth he started to develop this awkward crash motion to sink his right side lower. We spent most of the peak trying to dial in that last bit of depth the judges needed from him. The third attempt was an all-out grinder that he locked out, but the bar dipped down at the midpoint and got called for downward motion. After losing the bench kilos, we needed to hit 257.5kgs on the deadlift to achieve the 1500lb total we were chasing. I shifted his opener up and took exactly what I knew he needed to win best overall lifter on his second attempt. After that, we swung for the fences on his third attempt deadlift and it was just a little too much for the day. by @doxian_performance
Client: Tyler Flaherty Weight Class: 105kg (Junior) IG: @tylerlifts21 Squat: 227.5kg/501lbs Bench: 140kg/309lbs Deadlift: 217.5kg/480lbs Total: 585kg/1290lbs Tyler went 8/9 at his first meet, his only miss on the day was his third deadlift on grip at the top. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: Tyler has been powerlifting since February and has done an exceptional job overhauling all of his lifts to meet the standards judges expect on meet day. His depth on squats has gotten a lot better, he’s getting comfortable pausing his benches, and his deadlift lockout is much improved. The main limitation for him now is his grip on deadlifts, and we’ve been chipping away at this these last few months. We need to continue to dial in on some nutrition aspects outside the gym to increase his food quality and stay on a consistent sleep schedule for recovery as a college student. Tyler is very passionate about powerlifting and I appreciate our daily conversations. He wants to be great at this and tries very hard every day to become the best lifter he can be. He’s a positive influence for his training partners and I push him very hard as he needs the push to reach his goals. We are still in the early development phase as an athlete so he’s been responsive to everything I’ve thrown at him since his effort is so high. He just needs more time to continue developing as an athlete on all fronts, but he will get there in time. Proud of him and excited for the next meet as we’ve shattered every goal he wanted to achieve this year already. by @doxian_performance
Client: Matthew Riley Weight Class: 93kg (Junior) IG: @thatdiabeticlifter Squat: 227.5kg/501lbs Bench: 150kg/331lbs Deadlift: 240kg/529lbs Total: 617.5kg/1361lbs Dots: 402 Matt went 8/9 at his first meet, and his only miss on the day was his third deadlift on strength. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: Matt has only been powerlifting since the beginning of April and has progressed quite fast. He started with a 435lb squat, a 315lb touch-and-go bench, and a 425lb deadlift. Our first priority was to address his chronic knee pain he felt from squatting and learning to deadlift more efficiently. For the first two months, we pushed tempo squats and SSB Hatfield squats to help address his weight management issues. His deadlift training focused on lumbar strength development through heavy partials and getting comfortable with his initial pull off the floor. We didn’t pull anything over RPE 6 from the floor until 3 weeks out as he was still progressing linearly without any issues. His bench training went well as we prioritized upper body musculature development, but his rep-to-rep consistency still needs work. He wants to bring the bar down way too slow at times and he’s losing his upper body tension as he touches. Doing a better job of meeting the bar and getting into his position post-unrack still needs more practice. He trains hard, has room to grow into this weight class, and continues to be a model client on all fronts. I’m excited to see how he does this spring at his next meet as this is just the beginning for him. by @doxian_performance
Client: Aiden Vieu Weight Class: 90kg (Teen 3) IG: @aiden.vieu25 Squat: 200kg/441lbs Bench: 110kg/242lbs Deadlift: 237.5kg/524lbs Total: 547.5kg/1207lbs 8/9 day for Aiden at his first meet, his only miss on the day was jumping the start command on his opening bench attempt. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: Aiden has only been powerlifting for roughly 10 months and has gone from a 315lb squat, 245lb touch-and-go bench, and a 315lb deadlift to training numbers of 465lbs on squat, 275lbs on bench, and 530lbs on deadlifts before this meet. We planned this meet very conservatively by design because of technical aspects we needed to work around to get his lifts passed on the platform. His squat depth needs to consistently get better, his comfort level pausing on bench needs to improve, and his lockout on deadlift can be hit or miss depending on the day. He peaked exceptionally well and got progressively faster on each attempt once he acclimated to the kilo plates and the equipment on the platform, he very much preferred the compressed feeling of the kilos for deadlifts as the weight doesn’t windmill on him as much compared to the campus recreation center bumper plates he trains on. His third moved so fast we let him take 250kgs in the back and then 260kgs and he hit both weights with relative ease on deadlifts. Aiden has grown a lot these past few months and from where he started to where he is now is very impressive, he had easily the worst ankle mobility of any athlete who’s ever inquired due to years of basketball and ankle sprains, and correcting his generalized movement patterns took a lot of work. Excited for the next meet and he should blow this performance out of the water as I take some of the conservative training wheels off for him to push things more. by @doxian_performance
Client: Rachel Greba Weight Class: 60kg (Open) IG: @gre.baa Squat: 112.5kg/248lbs (+7.5kg) Bench: 75kg/165lbs (+10kg) Deadlift: 142.5kg/314lbs (+5kg) Total: 330kg/727lbs (+22.5kg) 9/9 day with a PR squat, bench, deadlift, and total. She won best female lifter for this meet as well. Prep Notes/Forward-looking priorities: She had a productive prep and peak and we’ve been able to really dial in on some of the technical limitations that have held her back previously. Her bench model continues to thrive and she probably had 80kgs on the day. Her leg tension and foot placement can be scattershot some days, but it’s mostly a habit from the varying benches she uses at her commercial gym. Squat confidence with the “it feels heavy” element has gotten better with increased heavier exposure on her secondary day, but we are going to slightly adjust her hand placement for the winter to dial in some small tensioning aspects to help her feel less “crushed” under the bar. Deadlifts, her limitations are mostly musculature development as we’ve settled on this very hinge-like sumo that feels natural for her. It’s consistently expressing when we need it to and we just need to continue chipping away here. She did great, looked strong, and I’m excited to see how she does next meet. Very proud of her and her continued development. by @doxian_performance
Most people tend to train across a wide spectrum of intensity and rep ranges throughout the training year. For some people who are biased more strongly towards one end of the exposure spectrum, this is a good post for addressing the typical bottlenecks to progress. There’s a lot more nuance that goes into the decision-making flowchart, but for the sake of staying on topic here is a holistic overview of easy programming adjustments to fix things that I typically see. Trust your datasets, find the easiest solutions prior to abrasive changes, and maximize your momentum. by @doxian_performance
This is a very long post focused on most of the issues I am addressing with busy adults who have complex lives outside the gym. Most good powerlifters hit a roadblock in their training where stress and a lack of time stagnate them and they start to lose their focus and training momentum. Zooming out and fixing all aspects of how you got to this point is key to getting through the harder times. Everyone should be able to take something from this post, especially junior lifters who go from a collegiate lifestyle to the job market and are learning to navigate these changes. by @doxian_performance
