Big thanks to the Blackweek team for inviting me to the festival this year. Can’t wait to dig into How to Own It America! As things continue to play out, it’s clear that ownership of the culture is the key to how we build a sustainable future. It’s why We Are CUZN exists, and ownership is the driving force behind KPTD (/kept/), the platform I’m building.

Looking forward to hearing from Joe Anthony, Tommy Davidson, Boz, the team from A Different World, and so many more.

Excited to experience the energy in the room and be with community! Get your tickets at Blackweek.co by @dptheep

Last week you were re-introduced to DP the EP. Today, meet the rest of the team.

When we launched We are CUZN, the mission was simple: build a production company that feels like those playful, unforgettable moments you share with your favorite cousins. No out-of-touch gatekeeping… Just brilliant minds, real culture, and uncompromised art.

Building something this special requires an intentional table, and I couldn’t have asked for better partners to sit across from. Behind WAC is an equal three-person team, and I am constantly impressed by who I get to create with:

• @trevonwes brings unmatched TV and studio pedigree to the table. From producing on heavy-hitting shows like The Voice, Ellen, and the Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast (including guests Michelle Obama and Nia Long) to currently shaping originals content over at Netflix (most recently A Different World reboot)… Tre knows how to execute media at the highest level. And you’ve probably seen him interview some of your Hollywood faves on IMBD’s YouTube channel!

• @sta_schemin is the show creator who started the world of Bop Academy, and I am deeply appreciative that he trusted me enough to share his IP. With deep roots tied to creative/artist strategy and UMG, he has a strong track record of crafting creative worlds for some of your favorite artists. Chronically online and grounded in insights, his pulse on culture and social media is second to none.

• And then there’s me: DP the EP, keeping us moving forward, the business tight, and the energy high… With years of experience showing brands how to connect with audiences and make stuff that sticks.

Put us all in a room (or my kitchen table), and magic happens ✨

If you haven’t seen what We Are CUZN created with @bopacademytv yet, tap in! We’re open for business 😉

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined” 😂

To know me is to know I’m not a fan of social media. But after launching a web series with two talented friends, they finally bullied me into creating an IG account. And honestly? They were right. So, here I am.

For those just tuning in, I’m Dwight, a creative and marketing exec with 20+ years of experience bringing content to life for brands like Airbnb and YouTube. After releasing myself from the matrix of corporate America, I decided to build something for myself and those around me.

A happy hour conversation about how much current media lacks soul (cause wtf is up with all the podcasts?!) quickly turned into a game night, which quickly turned into our new web series, Bop Academy. We developed the series October to December, I built the production team by February, and we were filming by April.

Day one, everyone on set knew we were creating something special. It honestly reminds me of how the cast and crew of classics like Waiting to Exhale and Set It Off talk about their time on set. We captured magic… shot live, in one take, with so much reverence and love.

Now, with over 180K views and 1K+ comments… It’s clear that others are seeing what we all saw from the beginning. And we thank you for watching.

Created completely independent of any studio and self-financed… This was a bet on me, my friends, and the originality that thrives when you give people the room to play. That ethos is the heartbeat of our production company, We Are CUZN. More to come on that later…

Which brings me to a broader point: we really need to stop celebrating creators getting validation or crumbs of deals from corporate monoliths and media conglomerates that fundamentally don't value us. The systems that, over time, actively contribute to our demise. Applauding any Black creator just for landing a show on platforms owned by power structures with anti-Black track records and political alignments isn't interesting to me at all. Real power isn't begging for a seat at their table; it's building your own house.

Shoutout to every single person who poured love into bringing this to life. We are just getting started ❤️‍🔥
